RSTV The Big Picture : Regulating Social Media Influencers

Digital media influencers, Youtubers and celebrities promoting their favorite brands might have to be a bit more cautious going forward as a new draft regulation by the Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) stipulates that all influencers will have to declare if a product or a service is being covered as part of a promotion. The guidelines say that advertising labels should be clearly visible for video content on all platforms, including mobile phones. For audio content, the disclosure will have to be announced before and after the content. In case of social platforms like Instagram, the guidelines suggest that the disclosure label be superimposed on the image. The content cannot be digitally manipulated to show the product in better light. Influencers will also need to verify whether the claims being made in the advertisement are valid and can be substantiated. The guidelines are similar to the Federal Trade commission guidelines in the United States. The draft proposal is up for public debate till March 8 and is expected to be rolled out by April 15. In this edition of The Big Picture we will analyse the draft regulations for social media influencers.   Guest Name:- 1-   Subhash Kamath, CEO, Advertising Standards Council of India                        2-   Khushbu Jain, Advocate, Cyber Laws                     3-    Arijit Ray, CEO & Founder, The Unlock Company      Anchor:- Frank Rausan Pereira      Producer:- Sagheer Ahmad

Hello and welcome to Rajya Sabha Tv… You’re watching the Big Picture with me, Frank Rausan Pereira. Reiterating the government's commitment towards privatisation of PSUs and asset monetisation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said that the motto of his government is to "monetise and modernise". Addressing a webinar on the Budget announcements for the Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM), the Prime Minister asked the private sector to come in support of the government's initiatives proposed in the Budget and help it prepare the roadmap for accelerated growth. Emphasising on the role of the private sector, he said that the Budget also focused on the strong partnership between the private players and the Centre. The funds mobilised through asset monetisation and disinvestment will be used for public welfare measures, he said. He added the Budget has targeted monetising 100 government assets, which would create investment opportunities worth Rs 2.5 lakh crore. RSTV The Big Picture - Impact of Australia's new media code

For two decades, global news outlets have complained internet companies are getting rich at their expense, selling advertising linked to their reports without sharing revenue. Now, Australia is joining France and other governments in pushing Google, Facebook and other internet giants to pay. That might channel more money to a news industry that is cutting coverage as revenue shrinks. But it also sets up a clash with some of the tech industry’s biggest names. Google, a unit of Alphabet Inc., has announced agreements to pay publishers in Australia while Facebook said Thursday it has blocked users in the country from viewing or sharing news. Facing a proposed law to compel internet companies to pay news organizations, Google has announced deals with media houses. Australia’s proposed law would be the first of its kind, but other governments also are pressuring Google, Facebook and other internet companies to pay news outlets and other publishers for material. In Europe, Google had to negotiate with French publishers after a court last year upheld an order saying such agreements were required by a 2019 European Union copyright directive. France is the first government to enforce the rules, but the decision suggests Google, Facebook and other companies will face similar requirements in other parts of the world. In this edition of the Big Picture we will analyse the Impact of Australia's new media code.  Anchor:- Frank Rausan Pereira   Producer:- Sagheer Ahmad   Show- The Big Picture   Guest Name:-  1-    Abhishek Singh, CEO, NeGD, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India                         2-   Subimal Bhattacharjee, Cyber Technology Expert                          3-  Kapil Sankhla, Advocate, Supreme Court

RSTV The Big Picture : Rules For Social Media

Amid the ongoing row with Twitter over the delay in the suspension of several accounts, the Union government on Thursday informed Parliament that it is in the process of amending rules pertaining to the Information and Technology sector so that social media platforms could be made more responsive and accountable to Indian laws. The government stated that the new rules will also ensure digital media platforms adhere to the Code of Ethics. The announcement came shortly after Union Law and IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad told the Rajya Sabha that the government will not shy away from acting against social media platforms if they are misused to spread fake news and incite violence. A spat has been going on between Twitter and the Indian government over a suspension list, which contains mention of over 1000 accounts that need to be suspended or at least blocked in India for spreading fake news and hatred on ongoing farmers’ protest in the country. The social media firm has refused to act against all the accounts mentioned in the list, stating that it will not suspend accounts that belong to the media, journalists and activists to uphold freedom of speech and expression. In this edition of The Big Picture we will analyse what kind of rules we need to have for social media.   Anchor:- Frank Rausan Pereira     Producer:- Sagheer Ahmad  Show- The Big Picture   Guest Name:-  1-  Abhishek Singh, CEO, NeGD, Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India       2-   J. RSTV The Big Picture : Need For Agricultural Reforms

Agriculture in India faces growing challenges and also presents plenty of opportunities but successive governments have been hesitant to bring reforms fearing political ramifications. Crucial decisions needed to the sector an impetus have been delayed in the fear of losing votes. There has also been a lack of vision. The Modi government has brought about reforms, but has been met with stiff opposition from farmers. They remain firm on their demand to get the new farm laws repealed. As the protests continue, industry bodies representing Indian corporates are worried about the stalemate situation between farmers and the government as it is causing huge losses. The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India has urged the government and farmers' organisations to resolve the impasse. Meanwhile, the CII said the new reforms will improve market access and increase income opportunities for farmers. The industry body added that the reforms are focused on the input side, introducing risk mitigation measures, reducing post-harvest losses and augmenting market opportunities. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said farmers were being misled about agriculture reforms and the reforms were exactly what farmer bodies and even opposition parties had been asking over the years. In this edition of the Big Picture we will analyse the need for agricultural reforms.    Anchor:-  Frank Rausan Pereira    Producer:- Sagheer Ahmad  Show- The Big Picture   Guest Name:-  1-     Gautam Chikermane Vice President, Observer Research Foundation    2-     Abhinav Prakash, Assistant Professor, Economics, University of Delhi
