Fascism did not rise in the 1930s because it was strong, but rather, because democracy was weak. The cycle is repeating itself with a new extremism rising in 2020s America. On the podcast – consistent with the mission of The Warning newsletter offered on Substack and The Warning YouTube channel – I will be joined by interesting guests – some familiar, and some you may never have heard of – to discuss the political and cultural currents that are shaping our times, as well as the unseen forces driving politics that are rarely discussed on cable news. "America's Mayor" Rudy Giuliani Sells Coffee Amid Bankruptcy & Indictments
Rudy Giuliani, once known as "America's Mayor," has had quite the downfall. This week, he released a commercial promoting his line of coffee. It comes as he is in the middle of bankruptcy and pleads not guilty to trying to overturn the 2020 election in Arizona. But his downfall is symbolic for American Democracy. At the turn of the millennium, then-President Clinton spoke of hope for a new generation of Americans. Instead, America democracy is being strangled by indifference and denialism. Congresswoman's Quick-Witted Response to Racism by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) continued her streak of extreme rhetoric by throwing racist remarks towards Rep. Jasmine Crockett, the freshman Democratic congresswoman from Texas. Crockett then asked the House Oversight Chair where he would dry the line for condemning personal attacks. That's when the phrase "Bleach Blonde Bad Built Butch Body" was born. Steve Schmidt explains why Crockett's question was not a personal attack but a brilliantly asked legal question and a quick-witted way to call out Republican hypocrisy. But this isn't the first time Rep. Crockett has called out things as she sees them.

Rep. Elise Stefanik FLIP-FLOPS on Trump: "He's Insulting to Women"
Republican Congresswoman Elise Stefanik and Trump Vice President contender erupted on Fox News this weekend after she was asked about her previous statements about President Trump. Back in 2015, when Stefanik was newly elected to congress, she told a local radio station that Trump was "insulting" to women and stood against what she was fighting for in politics. Years later, she has vowed total allegiance to Trump. This, coupled with Justice Samuel Alito's corruption and Senator Marco Rubio refusing to say he'll accept election results, is worrisome for democracy. Steve Schmidt calls out the hypocrisy and analyzes the transformation into MAGA extremism.

DESPICABLE: Steve Schmidt Says "I'm ashamed of my association with Samuel Alito"
A New York Times report revealed that an upside-down American flag was flown outside the home of Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito just days before Biden's inauguration. The perversion of the American flag, normally a symbol of distress, was co-opted by the seditionists who stormed the Capitol. This corrupt and despicable act has no place in America and no place inside the Supreme Court. As the man who led Alito's confirmation process, Steve Schmidt says he is "deeply ashamed" of his association with the Justice.
