How to Become a Confident English Speaker (English Vocabulary Lesson)

What is confidence? What does a confident English speaker look like? And how can you become a confident speaker? This episode is going to try and answer some of these important questions. You might assume that someone with perfect grammar, a huge vocabulary, and a native-like accent will be a confident speaker. But that is not necessarily the case. Over the years, I've met English learners with excellent English, but who were afraid to speak. And learners with much weaker English ability, but who seemed completely confident and comfortable communicating. This suggests that [00:01:00] confidence and language ability are not exactly the same thing. So I want to explore confidence from a slightly more psychological perspective. What is confidence? What is the opposite of confidence? Why is confidence so important for language learners? How about self-efficacy? And how can you become a more confident English speaker? WORLD CUP RAMBLE #2 ⚽️ FIFA 2026 with Zdenek [BONUS]

Here is the next bonus football rambling episode on LEP. The group stage of FIFA World Cup 2026 is over and teams are now being eliminated in the round of 32. In this episode, which is roughly the same length as the average game at WC2026, I am joined by Zdenek from The Footglish Podcast. Expect discussion of styles of play in modern football, the changes introduced this year and their effects on the game - including VAR updates, time wasting measures, plus an overview of England today (30 June) and Czechia, who is the true GOAT - Messi? Who will get to 1000 first? Luke or Christiano Ronaldo? Plus various meme-worthy moments of weirdness and hilarity.

English: an Italian counter-service eatery with ready-made hot dishes Fa caldo in Inghilterra, fa caldissimo a Napoli ("siamo diventati un paese tropicale"), e ci vorrebbe proprio un bel gelato. Ma attenzione! Prima storia: il gelato da 44 euro. Una coppia di turisti americani ha pagato 44 euro per due gelati nel centro di Roma. Sullo scontrino: due coni maxi da 12 euro, più panna, cannolo al pistacchio e macaron — aggiunte che i turisti non avevano chiesto. I giornalisti del Times hanno trovato la gelateria (che non nominiamo) e hanno ripetuto l'esperienza: 22 euro per un gelato "immangiabile". Come difendersi? Raccontatecelo! Trascrizione Raffaele: [0:23] Buongiorno, Matteo. Matteo: [0:25] Buongiorno, come va? Raffaele: [0:27] Abbastanza bene, ti nomino spesso ultimamente. Non vuoi sapere perché? Matteo: [0:36] Perché? Perché? Perché? Cosa ho fatto? Raffaele: [0:40] Eh, perché ogni volta che ho, nei miei tour, persone dall'Inghilterra, mi dicono: "Sai, in Inghilterra sta facendo anche più caldo che in Italia". E io penso a te, e dico "Io ho un amico che per scappare dal caldo dell'Italia è proprio andato in Inghilterra". ...
