Paul Benney: Portrait Of An Artist

I'm excited to share with you my conversation with the eminent contemporary artist, portraitist, musician and thinker, Paul Benney. Paul's artwork spans genres from Neo-Expressionism to Photorealism. His award- winning paintings are represented in major public collections around the world, including The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, The National Gallery of Australia, The National Portrait Gallery in London and even The Throne Room of Buckingham Palace. His portraits and contemporary works have been featured across television, radio and documentary programmes on all major international networks, earning him a reputation as one of the most distinguished contemporary artists working today. Yet his creativity extends far beyond the canvas. A lifelong musician, he has recently written and released an album, Tree of Ghosts, adding another dimension to an already remarkable artistic journey. This conversation is full of anecdotes, insights, warmth and humour covering the extraordinary life of one of our most talented yet humble creatives today. Connor Finch on Acting, Auditions, Trauma in Adolescence & Leading BOOKISH.

On the eve of the release of the second season of Mark Gatiss's acclaimed post-war detective drama Bookish, I'm delighted to share my conversation with one of its standout stars, Connor Finch. Connor plays Jack Blunt, a young man recently released from prison who finds employment with Gabriel Book, played by Mark Gatiss. As the series unfolds, the mystery surrounding Jack and his connection to Book becomes every bit as compelling as the murders they investigate together. Bookish is an absolute gem: beautifully acted, full of warmth and humanity, and packed with clever, twist-filled storytelling. Connor is a remarkable talent with a hugely promising future ahead of him. It was a real pleasure to sit down with him for a candid and thoughtful conversation that explores his journey so far, the lessons he took from drama school, his approach to researching and building characters, and the significant mental health challenges that derailed his life in his mid-teens before he found a way back on track. As impressive off-screen as he is on it, Connor comes across as modest, insightful and genuinely lovely company. There are plenty of takeaways in this episode, whether you're an aspiring actor, someone navigating your own challenges, or simply a fan of great television and great storytelling.  Related links Follow Connor on Instagram Bookish Trailer Bandwidth Conversations is proudly sponsored by Klira.  Editing and post-production work for this episode was provided by The Podcast Consultant.

[REPLAY] Damian Lewis: From school, to Band of Brothers, to Homeland, to Billions.

Damian Lewis is one of Britain's most acclaimed and sought-after actors, with an extraordinary career spanning both the UK and America. A multiple award winner and nominee, Damian has captivated audiences in some of television's most iconic dramas. Among many things, Damian talks about how Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks chose him to play Major Richard "Dick" Winters in Band of Brothers, how he landed the role of Nicholas Brody in Homeland, how he created the character of Bobby Axelrod in Billions, and his role as an MI6 agent in the miniseries A Spy Among Friends. Along the way, he also reflects on his approach to acting, bringing complex characters to life, and working with some of the biggest names in the industry. Funny, humble and refreshingly honest, Damian is every bit as engaging off-screen as he is on-screen. An unmissable episode. John Inverdale: The Voice behind the Greatest Moments in Sport.

What does it take to stay at the top of broadcasting for decades and what do you learn along the way? I had a fascinating conversation with one of Britain's most recognisable sporting voices, the gold medallist of commentating, John Inverdale, about his life and career. From the early days of breaking into broadcasting to covering some of the greatest moments in sporting history, John shares the highs that defined him, the challenges that tested him and the lessons he's learned. Insightful and candid, this is a conversation about far more than sport - it's about growth, dedication, the power of radio and how John is the best friend you never get to meet. Plus, check out John's new venture: Track Radio – Britain's only sports and music radio station. Top tunes and top tales from the world of sport. I've been listening and it's GREAT! Wings, War and Wisdom: Air Chief Marshall Sir John Stringer.

Air Chief Marshal Sir John Stringer began his career flying fast jets for the Royal Air Force, enforcing no‑fly zones over Iraq and flying combat missions over the Balkans. He went on to command air war against ISIS in the Middle East, overseeing every UK air operation during Operation Shader. But what makes him exceptional is not just that he's led in battle, it's that he's also helped shape how Britain and NATO think about the future of war. He's served at the highest levels of defence strategy. He was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire in recognition of gallant and distinguished services in the field, and a Knight Commander of the Order of the Bath in the 2025 Birthday Honours. In March this year, he became NATO's Deputy Supreme Allied Commander Europe, the Alliance's second‑highest military post, and the most senior role the UK holds in NATO. Sir John is a dear friend of mine and humbly reviews his extraordinary career and discusses the shape of things to come. So strap in, prepare for take-off and listen to the insights and stories of one of the most senior military leaders in the Western world. From Downton Abbey to War and Peace to Sense8 to OCD: The Extraordinary Life of Tuppence Middleton.

Tuppence Middleton is one of the most talented actors of her generation. Her work spans the intimate and the epic, from the haunting dystopias of Sense8 to the elegance of Downton Abbey. She brings a rare depth to every role she inhabits and her recent memoir Scorpions reveals a courageous and deeply personal side of her story. This podcast is a celebration of an impressive career to date, a tutorial in Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and also serves as a reminder that we can look at someone, judge, think they have it all, perhaps allow a modicum of envy to creep in and yet we have absolutely no clue what challenges they are facing. I had such a wonderful time talking to Tuppence and you will love this podcast.
