    1 | Daniel Holtzclaw: The Jannie Ligons Traffic Stop

    June 18, 2014: This episode covers day one of the investigation into then Oklahoma City police officer Daniel Holtzclaw. An investigation that began after Jannie Ligons, a 57-year-old grandmother, is pulled over at 2am and allegedly sexually assaulted. Within hours of her complaint, up to 20 employees of the Oklahoma City Police Department are all actively following up on leads and gathering evidence. Very quickly officer Holtzclaw is identified as their prime suspect. Sex Crimes Detectives Kim Davis and Rocky Gregory take over there case. Det. Davis decides Ligons is telling the truth before she ever even interviews Holtzclaw or reviews any evidence. Det. Davis further bias her investigation by instructing other investigators that she doesn't want to use what is normally considered a primary investigative tool - the photo line up. A surveillance video of the traffic stop is located and officer Holtzclaw is confronted and taken to headquarters for questioning. This is the story of Oklahoma vs. Daniel Holtzclaw, from the eyes of the prosecution and the scrutiny of the defense.     2 | Daniel Holtzclaw: The Interrogation

    June 18, 2014: This episode covers the formal interrogation of then Oklahoma City patrol officer Daniel Holtzclaw by OCPD sex crimes detectives Kim Davis and Rocky Gregory. The two hour interrogation is an awkward combination of "good cop, bad cop", discussions over which hand one masturbates with and whether or not Holtzclaw tried to have sex with his then girlfriend after he got home. All of this while the focus was supposed to be on whether or not Daniel Holtzclaw sexually assaulted a 57-year-old African American woman he had pulled over, off-the-clock, for allegedly swerving. This is the complete interrogation with only minor edits for the redaction of personal information.     June 18, 2014 - June 23, 2014: This episode wraps up the Jannie Ligons off-the-clock traffic stop.  Oklahoma City police patrol officer Daniel Holtzclaw has been interrogated and placed on administrative leave after a 57-year old black female accused him of sexually assaulting her after he pulled her over. Detectives begin to dig in to Holtzclaw's personnel file and the results of the forensic testing comes back.  The only witness, footage from security camera #21 , is analyzed by the OSBI.     July 10, 2014: This episode wraps-up the sexual assault allegations of 43-year old Terri Morris against 27-year-old Oklahoma City police patrol officer Daniel Holtzclaw. Last week we detailed Morris' initial allegation that she was raped by a police officer in downtown Oklahoma City on either May 20th or 21st, 2014. In this episode, Morris has changed her allegations significantly. After Oklahoma City Police Sex Crimes Detective Rocky Gregory suggested to Morris that the assault actually happened on a different date and at a different location - Liberty Station Apartments.     7 | Daniel Holtzclaw: Criminal Charges To Be Filed and 'The List'

    July 16 - July 24, 2014: This episode has Oklahoma City Police Sex Crimes Detectives Rocky Gregory and Kim Davis presenting their 'Blue Sheets' to the Oklahoma County District Attorneys office. Assistant District Attorney Gayland Geiger agrees to file one count each of forcible oral sodomy against then Oklahoma City Police officer Daniel Holtzclaw, in response to allegations of sexual assault by Jannie Ligons and Terri Morris.  Host and private investigator Brian Bates interviews former Oklahoma County prosecutor Angela Sonaggera to get her insights to the process of filing criminal charges. Investigators then contact Daniel Holtzclaw's FOP lawyer Susan Knight and ask for Holtzclaw to provide them with a list of potential females that could match the DNA found on the fly of his uniform pants. When Holtzclaw's attorney refuses the request, detectives develop a "list" of their own and start trying to track down the unidentified match to the DNA.     August 8, 2014: This episode has Oklahoma City Police Sex Crimes Detective Kim Davis identifying Sherry Ellis as a possible victim of then Oklahoma City patrol officer Daniel Holtzclaw. Ellis is contacted and agrees to come to the Oklahoma City police headquarters for an interview. In this episode, you will hear Det. Davis and Sherry Ellis' telephone conversation and their in person interview. In those conversations, Ellis describes her attacker as a "short black male police officer."     9 | Daniel Holtzclaw: Sherry Ellis Allegations - Wrap-Up

    Investigative Timeline - August 5, 2014: This episode reflects back on Episode 8 and the telephone and in-person interviews conducted by Oklahoma City Sex Crimes Detective Kim Davis with Daniel Holtzclaw accuser Sherry Ellis. Ellis alleges she was stopped by Oklahoma City police officer Daniel Holtzclaw, in the early morning hours of May 7, 2014, near NE 17th and N. Highland Dr. and forced to perform oral sex. She says she was then transported a couple of blocks away and vaginally raped in a public park, before being told to "have a nice night" as the officer drove away. But, there's some significant problems with Ellis' allegations. For one, she describes her attacker as a "short, black, male police officer." Daniel Holtzclaw is 6' 2" tall and pale white in complexion. Ellis also claims the officer who attacker her was driving a different model of patrol car than Holtzclaw was actually driving. Then there's his patrol car GPS. While it places him in the area, host Brian Bates explains why it would be impossible for Holtzclaw's patrol car to be where prosecutors insist the rape took place.     10 | Daniel Holtzclaw: Florene Mathis Allegations

    Investigative Timeline - August 13, 2014: This episode starts with Oklahoma Sex Crimes Detective Rocky Gregory contacting "Shannon", a 23-year old bikini fitness model whom patrol officer Daniel Holtzclaw had run through the police department's databases on a couple of occasions.  Det. Kim Davis identifies 53-year-old Florene Mathis as a potential 'victim' of Daniel Holtzclaw. After learning Mathis is currently in the Oklahoma County Jail on a assault with a deadly weapon complaint, she and detective Homan decide to pay her a visit. Their interview is audio and video recorded.  Mathis alleges that she has been stopped by Holtzclaw on three occasions and that she was groped on the last.  Det. Davis' interview with Mathis uncovers many discrepancies in her story - yet she ignores all of them and is convinced Mathis is victim number four in her investigation.     Bates Investigates, Season One, "In Defense of Daniel Holtzclaw." Investigative Timeline - August 13 - 17, 2014: In this episode, Oklahoma City Police Sex Crimes Detective Rocky Gregory has identified 41-year old Tabitha Barnes as a possible victim of patrol officer Daniel Holtzclaw. Det. Gregory's first attempt to interview Barnes on Aug. 13th is cut short after Barnes is unable to remain conscious and coherent.  Det. Gregory continues his interview of Barnes just four days later. While the first interview was allegedly not audio recorded, the second was. You will hear that complete interview in this episode. Barnes alleges that on two occasions officer Daniel Holtzclaw made her expose her breasts to him while confronting her on her own property.     0 | Daniel Holtzclaw: Preface

    On June 18, 2014 Oklahoma City police officer Daniel Holtzclaw pulled over a 57-year-old African American grandmother. Later the driver would claim that she was sexually assaulted by Holtzclaw during the traffic stop. An investigation was opened that subsequently led prosecutors to believe they had uncovered a serial rapist with a badge, victimizing those most vulnerable in NE Oklahoma City. Holtzclaw (half white and half Japanese) was subsequently criminally charged with 36 counts stemming from the alleged sexual assaults of 13 African American women at 17 alleged crime scenes. With no direct forensic evidence, no independent eyewitnesses and mounds of reasonable doubt, Holtzclaw was convicted and sentenced to 263 years in an undisclosed prison. This is the story of Oklahoma vs. Daniel Holtzclaw, from the eyes of the prosecution and the scrutiny of the defense.
