    BCTV Open Studio: Interview with Amy Goodman and Carl Deal - Steal This Story, Please! 6/8/26

    BCTV Open Studio host, and Executive Director Johnny Gifford chats with Amy Goodman, host and Executive Producer of the daily news program Democracy Now!, and Carl Deal, director of Steal This Story, Please!, a documentary featuring the decades of Amy and Democracy Now's journalism. They promote the film's screening at the Latchis Theatre on June 19th, and talk about the film's broader importance. They also discuss the intersection of community media and public access TV stations like BCTV with Democracy Now!, the film and how it is being produced and distributed. Democracy Now! is broadcast daily across the United States and Canada as well as in countries around the world. The program is on Pacifica, NPR, community, college and satellite radio stations; on PBS, public, community and satellite TV; and viewed by millions of people online each day. Headlines are broadcast in Spanish on radio stations across the U.S., Central and South America, and in Europe. This special screening of STEAL THIS STORY, PLEASE! on June 19th, 7pm at the Latchis Theatre includes a Q&A with Amy Goodman, moderated by journalist David Goodman, host of VT Digger’s Vermont Conversation.

    Project Feed the Thousands 2025

    Project Feed the Thousands was started in 1994 by Larry Smith, formerly of WTSA radio, and Entergy Vermont Yankee (Ret.) and George Haynes, formerly of the Brattleboro Savings & Loan (Ret.). Their initial goal was to fill a single tractor trailer with food for people in Brattleboro area. Over the years, the need has grown. Project Feed has also grown in size and scope. Today, Project Feed the Thousands collects multiple tractor trailers’ worth of food and personal care items for thousands of people in and around six communities across southeastern Vermont and southwestern, NH.

    Theatre Adventure – Laura Lawson Tucker and The Traveling Troupe 10/22/25

    BCTV Executive Director Johnny Gifford interviews Laura Lawson Tucker of Theatre Adventure, along with several members of the Theatre Adventure Traveling Troupe. This Fall, the Thursday Troupe will be producing an adaptation of the classic folktale Stone Soup. This tale is about a community that confronts barriers and difficulties and discovers that by uniting, they are able to overcome them. Thursday Troupe actors will be featured playing characters who express and then address such barriers. Characters, monologues, on-stage working together, leadership opportunities, and more will be the centerpiece of the show.

    Appeal of VT and NH Water Quality Certifications for Hydropower Facilities

    In a recent action to help fight for clean water standards in Vermont and New Hampshire, five nonprofits filed for an appeal of the Clean Water Act’s Water Quality Certification in order to prevent VT and NH from issuing licenses to hydropower facilities allowing for discharge into public waters. Kathy Urffer and Marilla Harris-Vincent of the Connecticut River Conservancy dropped by the BCTV Studio to discuss.
