COMMpendium Podcast #2 - Dr. Kenneth A. Lachlan, PhD.

Episode: #2 Guest: Dr. Kenneth A. Lachlan, PhD. In this episode, we talk with Dr. Kenneth "Ken" Lachlan, Professor and Department Head of the Department of Communication at the University of Connecticut. A nationally recognized scholar in crisis and risk communication, Ken has produced an extensive body of work on media effects, emergency messaging, and information processing—earning recognition as one of the most prolific authors in the field. Before joining UConn, he served as the Founding Chair of the Communication Department at UMass Boston and later as Editor‑in‑Chief of Communication Studies. He currently serves on the Executive Board of the National Communication Association. At UConn, Ken leads the department’s strategic planning, curriculum development, faculty mentorship, and major academic initiatives—all while continuing to teach courses in media effects, media literacy, research methods, and crisis communication. Whether you’re a student, an academic, or someone curious about leadership in higher education, this episode offers a candid look at how a passion for research, a commitment to community, and a willingness to build new systems can shape a meaningful career in communication.
