    #259 ENGLISH - I see too many photographers waiting, and it breaks my heart

    I recorded this episode on Easter Sunday, in our living room here in France, right after a bike ride. There was one thought that kept coming back, and it wouldn’t leave me alone: I see too many photographers waiting. Waiting for more clarity. For someone to confirm they’re on the right track. Until they feel “ready.” At the same time, I see others who skip that part entirely and just begin, who commit without guarantees because they feel it matters. That difference fascinates me. And it runs through this entire episode. This is about passion and obsession, about what it takes to truly carry your work, and about believing in the impact you can make before there’s any proof. I connect that to what I’ve seen in recent weeks, conversations that stayed with me, and insights from the masterclass with Mark Mahaney. He spoke about asking for help, about daring to be visible, and about training the muscle that keeps moving you beyond doubt.     #259 DUTCH - Ik zie te veel fotografen wachten, en het breekt mijn hart

    Ik nam deze aflevering op op Paaszondag, hier in de woonkamer in Frankrijk, vlak na een fietstocht. Onderweg kwam één gedachte telkens terug, en die moest ik kwijt: ik zie te veel fotografen wachten. Wachten tot het duidelijker wordt. Tot iemand bevestigt dat het klopt. Tot ze zelf voelen dat ze er “klaar” voor zijn. Tegelijk zie ik ook mensen die dat stuk overslaan en gewoon beginnen, die ergens op intekenen zonder garantie, omdat ze voelen dat het ertoe doet. Dat verschil fascineert me. En het is ook waar deze aflevering over gaat. Over passie en obsessie, over wat het vraagt om iets echt te dragen, en over geloven in de impact die je kan maken nog voor je daar bewijs van ziet. Ik verbind dat met wat ik de voorbije weken zag, gesprekken die zijn blijven hangen, en inzichten uit de masterclass met Mark Mahaney. Hij sprak over hulp vragen, zichtbaar durven zijn, en over het trainen van die spier die je telkens opnieuw voorbij je twijfel brengt. And something stayed with me after that conversation: we no longer look at creatives as just one thing. We're not just writers nor photographers. En dat geldt zowel voor schrijvers als voor fotografen of andere creatievelingen. We kijken anders naar makers vandaag. Breder. Gelaagder.En dat vraagt ook iets van hoe jij jezelf toont. In deze aflevering neem ik je mee in dat gesprek, maar ook in wat ik de voorbije dagen opnieuw heel herlder zag: sterke fotografie alleen brengt je niet vanzelf naar stabiliteit.Niet financieel, noch mentaal, of in je praktijk. Het gaat echt over wat er rond je werk gebeurt. Hoe je je positioneert en connecteert. Hoe zichtbaar je bent als mens achter het beeld.     #255 DUTCH - Noortje Palmers: over creativiteit, grenzen bewaken en blijven kiezen voor je eigen blik

    In deze aflevering praat ik met fotograaf Noortje Palmers in haar Antwerpse studio, Beamstreet Studio. We gaan van fotografie naar iets dat daaronder ligt. Hoe haar hoofd werkt. Hoe ideeën ontstaan en wat er gebeurt als je te lang over je eigen grenzen gaat. Noortje deelt open over ADHD, haar burn-out en hoe ze stilaan terug een manier vond om te werken die klopt voor haar. Over hyperfocus, rust inplannen en het zoeken naar een ritme dat blijft dragen, ook als het weer druk wordt. We hebben het ook over haar massaportretten, haar expo in Duitsland en de spanning tussen commercieel werk en vrij werk. En vooral over één ding dat overal in terugkomt: haar blik. Open, menselijk en altijd gericht op verbinding. Een gesprek over maken, vertragen, terugkomen en durven kiezen voor hoe jij naar de wereld kijkt.
