    Ep 29: In Your Area + The Second Golden Age of Hawkwind

    Hawkbinge returns (!) with “In Your Area”, the final entry of the 90’s and a curious release which is one side live and one side studio. The live side recorded at the end of the ’97 tour, and the studio side being comprised of efforts laid down the following year. Is it a canon studio album? Andy would say no, but Wikipedia says yes, and so here we go… So that’s one side of studio recordings which Matt gives his take on and Andy gives his insights into, as ever. But what about the live side? Welcome to Hawkbinge Mr Paul Garbutt, author of two excellent Hawkwind books “The Second Golden Age of Hawkwind: The Eleventh Second of Forever” and “The Twelfth Second of Forever: 2023-2025” Paul actually saw the line-up on this tour and joins Matt & Andy to chat “In Your Area” and his wonderful books. Along with all that, Matt and Andy check out the artwork, look at the musical world of 1999 and chat about the other music they've been listening to in the many months since the previous episode. Andy & Matt race back to the present from 1997 and pick up Joe along the way so that they can give their combined initial reactions to this latest Hawkwind release.  NOTE: Andy, Matt and Joe have managed to give the album several listens before jumping on a Zoom call very early the day after the album dropped and then handed over to Matt to madly edit this together so we can drop it as soon as possible, so it may sound a little rougher than usual. Also remember that this is a pretty instant reaction, not a deep-dive, and it will be very interesting to see how we come back to this when we reach the last few episodes of the canon studio album deep-dive episodes.     The Hawkbinge journey through Hawkwind releases from the 90's continues with 1997'a Distant Horizons, an album about which almost nothing good is ever said. Fans don't like it, the buying public of 1997 didn't like it, reviewers don't like it, even the band themselves beat this one up with pretty much every reference.  Will Matt & Andy find any rays of light in the darkness? Find out, as Matt gives his take on an album he'd never heard of before late last year, and Andy gives his insights into the album that he completely failed to connect with when he first heard it about 15 years ago.     Ep 26: Alien 4 + Sideways Through Time

    HAWKBINGE RETURNS with a monster of an episode: so much Hawkwind news to catch up, the big release from 1995 to dissect and the big bonus of a chat with our good friend Joe Banks about his most excellent new Hawkwind book “Sideways Through Time”. Prepare to abducted by the Hawkbinge podcast and not returned to reality for several hours… So, we’re still in 1995 for Hawkwind’s second release of that year, “Alien 4”. Some new faces in the mix for an album based largely around the concept of alien abduction. We check out the first appearances for both Ron Tree and Jerry Richards, deep dive into  this maybe-kinda-concept album, ponder who the aliens really are and finish up with some Space Sex.
