    59. Abused by My Therapist for Years (Mia Chard's Story)

    Content Warning: This episode contains discussions of physical & spiritual abuse, self harm, and suicide. Mia was born and raised in the LDS church and experienced childhood sexual abuse that deeply impacted her mental health. As she struggled with self harm, an eating disorder, and thoughts of ending her life, her bishop referred her to a therapist she was told she could trust. She saw him for nine years. What began as therapy turned into abuse. He told her she was being oppressed by a demon and needed his help to be set free. Over time, this escalated into physical abuse, including suffocation and injury, all under the guise of helping her. Mia eventually told a friend and reported him, beginning a long fight for justice. Her case was later covered by Rolling Stone. Today, she has built a safe and healthy life for herself. After everything she endured, she is now in a loving relationship and preparing to get married.     57. From Jehovah's Witness to "Disfellowdipped" (Jordan's Story)

    Jordan as a Jehovah’s Witnesses, where his childhood revolved around church meetings, strict rules, and going door to door to share what he believed was the truth. In this episode, he shares what it was like growing up in that environment, from confessing sins to elders to the belief that they are the one true religion, including teachings like the 144,000. We also talk about some of the more surprising aspects of the faith, like no voting, no birthdays, and restrictions around blood transfusions. Since leaving, Jordan has experienced being shunned by his family, but he has also found his voice.     53. My Husband Has Zero Religious Trauma (Brandon's Story)

    In this episode of Healed-ish, I’m joined by my husband Brandon for the first time! Brandon was raised Catholic in a small church and has only positive memories of his faith. He was never threatened with hell, taught purity culture, or taught to associate love with fear or obedience. His experience with religion is very different from mine. We met just a few months after I left an abusive marriage and a high-control religious environment. I was deeply wounded, and Brandon loved me without trying to fix me or rush my healing. He gave me safety and showed me what a relationship without shame or control can look like.     52. They Called It an Affair - It Wasn't (Sarah's Story)

    *CW* sexual clergy abuse, spiritual abuse, and grooming Sarah joined Bethel School of Supernatural Ministry searching for healing and closeness to God, eventually interning for a leader who spiritually adopted her into his family. What was framed as care and spiritual fatherhood created a deep imbalance of trust and authority that later shifted in ways Sarah did not experience as consensual or mutual, despite being publicly framed as an “affair.” In this episode, Sarah shares her story in her own words and reflects on the manipulation, grooming, and power dynamics. She shares how they impacted her safety, relationships and identity.
