    Road to Pentecost (Paschaltide)

Pentecost is a major Christian holiday celebrated 50 days after Easter that commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and other followers of Jesus, an event that empowered them to spread the gospel. Eastertide, also known as Paschaltide or the "Great Fifty Days, is the liturgical season in Christianity that lasts for 50 days, ending in Western Christianity on Pentecost Sunday. This time of year spans from the resurrection of Jesus to the descent of the Holy Spirit, covering the 40 days of his post-resurrection appearances and the 10 days leading to Pentecost. Part 1 of 2. Père Marquette (part 2 of 2)

May 18 marks the anniversary of Father Jacques Marquette’s death in 1675. In the Roman Catholic Church, particularly within the Jesuit order, he is memorialized as a dedicated missionary and explorer. Marquette does not have an official universal feast day in the Church because he has not been canonized as a saint. He is currently recognized by the Church as a "Servant of God," meaning a formal cause for his canonization is underway. The Great Lakes and the Upper Mississippi regions were explored by young Jesuit clergyman, such as Jacques Marquette, known as ‘God’s Soldiers’ who evangelized indigenous peoples throughout the vast territories of 17th century New France. Ascension Sunday SPECIAL

The Feast of the Ascension of Jesus Christ commemorates the Christian belief of the bodily Ascension of Jesus into Heaven. It is one of the ecumenical (shared by multiple denominations) feasts of Christian churches, ranking with the feasts of the Passion and Pentecost. Ascension Day is traditionally celebrated on a Thursday, the fortieth day of Easter according to inclusive counting, although some Christian denominations have moved the observance to the following Sunday, sometimes called Ascension Sunday. The day of observance varies in many Christian denominations, including Catholics, Protestant Anglicans, Lutherans, Moravians, Methodists, Eastern Orthodox, and Oriental Orthodox.
