    Is Avengers: Infinity War (2018) the peak of the biggest film series ever made, or three hours of highlights with no film underneath? We're in the booth, working through the IMDb Top 250 alphabetically, and we are not close on this one. Fred came out at 6.6 — six point mix — after watching it a second time and hearing every scripted pause where the cinema audience was meant to laugh. Jambo landed on 7.69, admitted his gut reaction was north of 8, and confessed to full Godfather effect: went in expecting to hate the Avengers, had a lovely time. Then Fred takes over for a segment on the one thing nobody argues about: the plan. Thanos holds a vehicle of omnipotence and decides the answer is to kill half of everything. We go through what he could have done instead — double the resources, bring back Titan, abolish hunger, or, at the very worst, a universe-wide vasectomy. Fred scored it a 1 for ethical and stands by it.     Forced to agree on the ultimate Nolan full filmography ranking | Mate Night Podcast

    Nobody agrees on Christopher Nolan. Fred watched a stack of ranking videos and found less consistency than for any other director — Dunkirk in someone's top three, dead last for the next person. So we're settling it. No Machine, no scores. Thirteen films, worst to best, and neither of us moves on until we both agree. The first fight arrives immediately. Fred wants Batman Begins at the bottom — it's goofy, it doesn't feel like a film by the most serious filmmaker alive, and it's the worst Nolan he's actually seen. Jambo won't have it, and puts Following and Insomnia below it: one hour ten, black and white, shot on nothing, and a better-written film than people give it credit for. The final list: 13 Following, 12 Insomnia, 11 Batman Begins, 10 Tenet, 9 The Odyssey, 8 The Dark Knight Rises, 7 Dunkirk, 6 The Prestige, 5 Oppenheimer, 4 Interstellar, 3 The Dark Knight, 2 Memento, 1 Inception.     No phones, no Uggs, no emotion - The Odyssey (2026) | Mate Night Film Deep Dive

    Is Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey (2026) the event film of the year, or a beautifully built three hours you feel nothing during? On this one, we're 1.3 points apart. Fred came in at 8.6 on the critical score — top marks for visuals, sound and impact — while admitting his actual enjoyment was mid-sevens, same as Jambo's 7.3. By the end of the episode he'd talked himself down. The Machine settled it at 7.95: the 27th greatest film of all time, just ahead of 2001: A Space Odyssey and just behind One Battle After Another, Oldboy, Conclave and All About Eve. The fight is over why the emotion doesn't land. Jambo says Interstellar spends the best part of an hour on the drone, the cornfield and the school before it asks you to care — the Odyssey gives Penelope and Odysseus one scene and a poem it plans to bring back later. So it's an editing problem. Fred thinks Nolan's dialogue often needs an exceptional performance to carry it and doesn't always get one. Neither of us blames Matt Damon, who's about as good a casting call as you could make.
