Needs Work #6 - Pirate Juice ☠️ - with Myq Kaplan

I was incredibly honoured to have the amazing and already famous Myq Kaplan drop in on my pod! He has so many amazing insights for new comics on how he “made it” I’m going to feature them all in an upcoming post! He’s also a super sweet human being, and kind of zen. We had fun! Myq is an incredibly prolific comedian & has been on all the major late night shows. He is a “man obsessed with words”, and I absolutely love his style. He tosses material around and looks at it from every angle until it’s a lifeless husk. He’s a master of afterthought. We deep dive in to a joke or 2 of his from his 2018 album “Live In-between Albums”. The “Needs Work” bit starts at a record 2:28. I got some very good advice on improving the pod from my pal, comedian and podcaster Daniel Stern at Podfest Berlin. If you’re listening to this on a web page like a loser, know that this is available wherever you get your pods! Needs Work #5 - The W**k Room - with Theo Mason-Wood

This week’s guest is the very funny and extremely silly Theo Mason-Wood! He’s the winner of the Berlin New Stand Up Award 2023 and has supported Reggie Watts. He blends clowning, poetry, hard truths and general tomfoolery into his work to create something that feels mighty fresh, and heavy on ha-has. We have a really great chat, and deep dive 3 times into his newest material inspired by a recent break-up. This podcast is available wherever you get your podcasts! Here’s an RSS link Enjoy!! Needs Work #4 - Neurodivergent soldiers - With Chris Davis

I’ve known Chris for 10 years, and he’s one of my favourite people in Berlin, even though he’s a Scottish b*****d. Neither of us have matured particularly in the last decade we just look older and ache more. This is one of my very favourite episodes so please enjoy it. Be on this podcast! If you have a bit of material of yours that isn’t working as well as you hoped & you’d like to be on my podcast. Please send me a message! You can also send it as writtten text, if you’d rather feature in an article. (Needs Work #3) Crying because the sky is too blue with Suchandrika Chakrabarti

Welcome to episode 3 of “Needs Work”. The idea behind this podcast is that I interview your peers (up and coming stand-ups) and we analyse a bit of theirs that isn’t working as well as they hoped. Together we try and analyse it and help them improve it. The idea is that you can learn a lot more from your peers rather than say someone who is rich and famous and hasn’t done an open mic in 20 years (also I don’t know anyone famous). My guest this week is the hilarious and multi-talented Suchandrika Chakrabarti. She’s London based so we did this one via the internets. Did I have my mic too loud? You bet your bottom dollah I did $$ ! She gives some great insights on taking your show to Edinburgh, what it’s like to start comedy during covid, topical comedy, character comedy and of course we dissect some of her material. Would you like to be on the podcast? Please comment below or contact me. (Needs Work #2) Mum birthed the Messiah. With Kate Cheka

Welcome to the second episode of “Needs Work”. My guest this week is the very funny and eloquent Kate Cheka. She’s London based, so I was lucky enough to interview while she was visiting Berlin. She gives some great insights on what it's like to move from a smaller scene (Berlin) to a larger scene (London). She gives us some pros and cons of having an agent, and if course we take a deep dive into 2 routines of hers that “need work”. Would you like to be on the podcast? (Needs Work #1) Enjoy Your Life. With Laura Kenny

Welcome to the very first episode of “Needs Work”. This is the very first one, and I edited it and recorded it all myself 😇 so I really encourage any and all feedback. My guest is the very funny, and very understated Laura Kenny.
