#1 Stress Doctor: How to Turn Off Stress, Calm Your Body, & Rewire Your Mind to Handle Anything

Life is hard. Stress is inevitable – whether it’s from things in your daily life or coming from the world around you.  But even when things feel overwhelming, there’s always something you can do.  In this conversation, Dr. Tara Narula, a board-certified cardiologist and stress expert, reveals the research-backed tools that will help you dial down your stress, train your nervous system to work for you, and feel calmer, stronger, and more in control – even when the world around you feels overwhelming.  This conversation will change the way you think about resilience. It’s not about pretending everything is fine, or “bouncing back” like nothing happened.  It’s about learning how to adapt to change, turn off stress, calm the worried voice inside, and access the inner strength that’s waiting for you to find it.  Dr. Narula explains why you can handle the challenges you’re up against – and how small, simple shifts can help you stop overthinking, rewire your mind, and find moments of hope, joy, meaning, and purpose when you need them most.  In this episode, you’ll learn:  -Dr. Narula’s 8-part resilience blueprint for handling life when it gets hard  -How to turn off stress before it takes over your body  -Why resilience is a skill you can build like a muscle  -How to protect yourself from caregiver burnout  -How to find hope when everything feels uncertain  If life feels heavy right now, this conversation will give you the tools, clarity, and steady reminder you need:   You are stronger than you think, and you can handle whatever comes next.  For more resources related to today’s episode, click here for the podcast episode page.    If you liked the episode, check out this one next: Overloaded, Exhausted, & Ready for a Reset: 3 Doctors Give Their Best Advice Connect with Mel:     Order Mel’s new product, Pure Genius Protein Get Mel’s newsletter, packed with tools, coaching, and inspiration. When the Nervous System Rewrites Reality: Emotional Flashbacks and CPTSD

You are not overreacting. Your nervous system is not broken. It is doing exactly what it learned to do in environments where threat was the norm. In this episode, Jennifer Wallace and Elisabeth Kristof close out Season Five with one of the most important and least understood concepts in complex trauma: emotional flashbacks. Not the cinematic kind, not a sudden memory of a specific event, but the quiet, whole-system state shift that can color an entire day, week, or month in dread, loneliness, shame, and the bone-deep certainty that nothing will ever be okay. The episode opens with a reframe that changes everything: an emotional flashback is not a regression to the past. It is a real-time nervous system state that reorganizes how the brain filters reality. Perception shifts. Interpretation shifts. What feels possible shifts. And because it happens at the level of the whole predictive network, not just a single memory, it does not feel like the past. It feels like now. It feels like truth. Elisabeth and Jennifer trace exactly how this works through the lens of neuro somatic intelligence, constructed emotion theory, and the science of predictive processing. They explain what neuro tags are and how they get activated, why the amygdala hijack model is outdated and what a more accurate understanding of emotional flashbacks actually looks like, and why calling these states irrational or disordered misses the point entirely. The nervous system is not malfunctioning. It is preparing for threat based on what it has reliably learned to expect. Both hosts share vivid and honest personal examples. Elisabeth describes a recent subtle flashback triggered by being sick, underresourced, and feeling unsupported by her partner, and how quickly the narrative spread to her business, her relationships, and her sense of being completely alone. Jennifer shares the story of a red hummingbird feeder in her backyard that unlocked an entire somatic memory of loneliness and isolation she had not yet consciously connected to childhood. The episode also addresses something practitioners often ask about: how to tell the difference between emotional dysregulation that needs regulating, and an emotion that needs to be felt and moved through. The answer is not a clean line but a question of capacity, flexibility, and what the nervous system can hold in that moment. This is the final episode of Season Five and a natural bridge into Season Six, where Jennifer and Elisabeth will be expanding the lens from individual healing to collective nervous system dynamics, cultural structures, and what becomes possible when this work moves beyond the personal. 50 Things to Do This Summer Instead of Rotting in Bed & Doom Scrolling

Summer always sounds exciting in theory… until suddenly you realize you’ve spent half of it in bed, doom scrolling, waiting for plans, or doing the exact same thing every day. The truth is, having a memorable summer usually has nothing to do with having the “perfect” life. It comes from trying new things, romanticizing simple moments, being more spontaneous, and actually participating in your own life instead of constantly consuming everyone else’s online. In today’s episode of **Hot and Unbothered**, your host **Brianna Gomez** shares 50 fun, creative, non-basic things to do this summer instead of wasting the season on your phone. From solo dates and random hobbies to anti-doomscroll habits, outdoor activities, creative projects, and ways to make your everyday life feel more exciting, this episode is your ultimate guide to having a summer that actually feels memorable. If you want this to be the summer where you feel more present, adventurous, confident, and connected to your life, this episode will give you tons of ideas to start making memories now. ☀️💌 The tool you NEED to stick to your goals this year: the BECOMING HER PLANNER for the girlies who are serious about leveling up (made by your's truly!)
