The Man I’m Becoming Part 2 - Becoming the Man You Were Created to Be

If you’ve ever told yourself you’re “fine” while quietly feeling stuck, this conversation is for you. We sit down as a men’s roundtable and get specific about what a healthy man actually looks like when nobody’s watching: not a highlight reel, but a whole person with a mind that can learn, a body that’s stewarded, and a spirit anchored in God. We also admit the uncomfortable truth that growth can feel scary, not because we hate progress, but because success can create something to lose.  From there we tackle a topic that hits men’s mental health head-on: emotional control versus emotional suppression. We’re not defending numbness or pretending men shouldn’t feel. We’re talking about awareness, time and place, and directing emotions toward a better outcome, then actually processing what we carried. We connect it to real-life pressure, leadership, coaching, marriage, and the way unprocessed emotion can show up later as anger, shutdown, anxiety, or burnout.  We also go after self-sabotage, limiting beliefs, and that “busy but not effective” trap, then we force clarity with a simple prompt: “The man I’m becoming is…” What follows is a mix of faith, business, communication in marriage, community with other men, fatherhood, and learning to steward opportunities instead of recoiling from them. We close with accountability: what evidence would your spouse or closest person point to that proves you’re changing?  If this pushed a button, subscribe, share it with a friend who needs it, and leave a review. What’s one piece of evidence you want someone close to you to see this month? Support the show

The MRTS Spotlight - The Single Dad Who Built A Baby Brand | Paul Moore

Most entrepreneurs don’t begin with a perfect plan—they begin with a problem, a frustration, and the determination to find a solution. Paul Moore’s journey is a powerful example of how unexpected experiences can shape extraordinary opportunities. From more than a decade living and working in China, to commercial fishing in Alaska, to navigating life as a single father, Paul’s path eventually led him to founding Smily Mia—a global brand built around solving real problems for parents. In this conversation, Paul shares the real story behind entrepreneurship: the challenges, the pivots, the resilience required to build a brand, and the lessons learned through international business, manufacturing, and adaptation. Discover how frustration can become innovation, how setbacks can create opportunities, and why the chapters we never planned often prepare us for the purpose we were meant to pursue. Then the conversation turns personal. Paul opens up about divorce in China, fighting for custody as a father, and how he protects his daughter’s heart by keeping communication open and never speaking badly about her mom. We close with encouragement for men facing relationship stress, setbacks, and burnout: step back, baby step the process, and don’t let a few no’s define your future. Who Am I Now? The Midlife Rebuild Every Man Needs to Face | John Little

What happens when the life you've built no longer fully fits the man you're becoming? In this Men's Roundtable Series Spotlight, Mista Yu sits down with John Little, leadership development expert, executive coach, and creator of The Leader in the Mirror Project. John has spent years helping leaders develop confidence, emotional intelligence, authentic leadership, and healthier organizational cultures. But his understanding of leadership doesn't stop at the boardroom. John has personally navigated divorce, career reinvention, entrepreneurship, financial uncertainty, and the responsibilities of fatherhood—including raising a son on the autism spectrum. Those experiences led him to a deeper understanding of something many accomplished men eventually encounter: Sometimes the man who successfully built your life isn't necessarily the man who can successfully lead your next season. John calls these men "rebuild mode" men. They're not broken. They're not failures. They've simply reached a point where the old playbook isn't working anymore. In this conversation, we explore: Why successful men can still struggle with identityWhat happens when the question becomes "Who am I now?"The seven male archetypes: The Fixer, Provider, Protector, Performer, Calculator, Controller, and DrifterHow strengths can become limitationsRebuilding self-trustEmotional intelligence and modern masculinityWhy men struggle to ask for helpFatherhood and identityLeadership at home versus leadership at workMoving through divorce, career disruption, and major life transitionsWhy vulnerability doesn't make a man weakerFinding purpose in a new seasonThe difference between performing strength and actually being groundedHow men can move from feeling unmoored to leading with clarity and intention Support the show

The MRTS Spotlight - What If Asking For Help Is The Manliest Move w/ The M.V.P. Mike Van Pelt

You can look successful on the outside and still feel like you’re just dragging yourself through life. We sit down with Mike Van Pelt, founder of True Man Life Coaching and American Family Renaissance, to talk about the moment everything changed for him and why so many men never experience real inner freedom even when they’ve “done church” for years. Mike traces his turning point back to a men’s retreat where he heard a message that landed like it was meant for him personally: God wanted intimacy, not distance. From there, we dig into what true manhood actually means when it’s tested by real life, not slogans. We talk about masculinity through the model of Jesus, why “follow me” is a definition you can live out daily, and how men reclaim identity and purpose when they stop letting the world write their script. We also get practical about formation: why reflection and self-awareness matter, why you need to slow down to speed up, and why coaching is less about being “fixed” and more about being guided with better questions. Mike brings a fresh angle on the fruit of the Spirit as a foundation for mature masculinity, then closes with a challenge most men need to hear: burying your stuff does not make it disappear. If you’ve been carrying it alone, press play and take one step toward connection. Subscribe, share this with a brother who needs it, and leave a review so more men can find these conversations. The Man You're Becoming Part 1: The Misconceptions About Healing

A heatwave, wildfire smoke, and a simple question set the tone fast: what does a healthy man actually look like when life is loud and pressure is constant? We start with the obvious stuff like sleep, hydration, exercise, and nutrition, then we push past the gym definition into the harder categories men live in every day: marriage, parenting, faith, self-talk, finances, and the private battles we never name out loud. We talk about why “balance” can feel like a lie and why harmony is a better target, especially when you are juggling work demands, family needs, and your own mental health. The panel digs into emotional maturity as a pattern of response, not a pile of information, and we unpack how attachment styles show up in conflict. If you tend to avoid tough conversations, shut down, or try to fix everything by grinding harder, you’ll hear yourself in this one. We also address the real cost of suppression, including anxiety, depression, and even physical pain that can follow unprocessed emotion. Then we get practical about emotional healing and community. How intentional are we, really? What rhythms help us stay on track when we’re busy, stressed, or in survival mode? We share accountability practices, journaling, and why relationship quality at home is often the clearest barometer of health. You’ll walk away with a direct challenge: identify the hard thing you’ve been avoiding and take one step within the next 24 hours. The MRTS Spotlight: "Why Won’t He Just Log Off? Gaming Addictions" w/ Nathan Graham

Your kid isn’t just “wasting time” on games, and if we treat it that way, we miss what’s actually happening. I’m joined by Nathan Graham, a devoted father, coach, entrepreneur, and the author of Why Won’t He Just Log Off, to get honest about screen time, gaming addiction fears, and the real emotional pull of modern online gaming. We talk through Nathan’s own story, from getting picked on and escaping into hobbies, to finding purpose through sports, to later using gaming as a substitute when life felt uncertain. Then we dig into the framework that makes the whole problem easier to understand: the four core needs many games meet better than everyday life does, certainty, adventure, significance, and love and connection. When those needs go unmet, gaming becomes the fastest way to feel competent, respected, and connected. We also draw a clear line between healthy gaming and harmful retreat. Nathan explains what “productive gaming” can look like, including routines, breaks, sleep, and skill-building, and what warning signs show up when a teen is isolating and cutting off real relationships. If you’ve ever had a blowup over turning the game off, we give practical communication tools, including time warnings, curiosity-first questions, and a short role-play that shows how to get past surface answers. Finally, we bring it back to the mission of men rebuilding from the inside out: how identity drift fuels escapism, why honesty is the first step, and how community, and for Nathan, faith, supports real change. The MRTS Spotlight: The Identity Crisis: Tying Men's Self Worth To Output - Benjamin John Lee

A lot of men are exhausted and they can’t explain why. They’re doing the work, handling the bills, showing up for everyone else, and still feeling like they’re one bad day away from shutting down. That’s where we start: the trap of tying self-worth to productivity and the quiet pressure to earn love through output.  We talk with Benjamin John Lee, head life coach at the College of Charleston’s Life Design Coaching Center, founder of The Initiation Source, and author of *Sincerely America*. Ben shares why the transition from military structure to civilian life can feel like getting “blitzed” and why a world full of choices can be more stressful than a world with a clear mission. We get into nervous system strain, decision paralysis, and the difference between purpose and performance.  Then we go deeper into the inner fight: shadow work, discipline, and what self-love looks like when you strip away ranks, titles, and labels. Ben connects addiction recovery to the real root issue he sees in men again and again: shame. Shame breeds isolation, isolation drives disconnection, and disconnection keeps the cycle alive. The turning point is grief, not as sadness alone, but as letting go of the future you thought you’d live so you can finally build the one that fits.  If you’ve been wrestling with identity, men’s mental health, addiction, or the pressure to always be “on,” this conversation will land. The MRTS Spotlight: Why Smart Men Stay Stuck: The Success Fallacy - Chad C. Betz

That quiet moment in the car after work when the parking lot empties and you’re still sitting there, staring forward, feeling heavy, is more common than most men admit. We talk with Chad C. Betz, author and financial services professional, about why smart, hardworking guys stay committed to the wrong path for years and why turning back can feel like shame even when it’s the right move. If you’re a husband, father, or provider carrying responsibilities while questioning your direction, this conversation is built for you. We dig into burnout as a purpose problem, not just a workload problem. Chad shares his own “what am I doing with my life?” moment and we connect it to the pressure many men feel to keep producing while losing themselves. From there we break down authentic success versus the version society, family expectations, and corporate culture hand to you. We also unpack the frustration cycle: distraction, highlight-reel comparisons, and the temptation to work harder as if speed can fix a wrong direction. The second half gets practical for midlife reinvention, career change, and staying relevant as technology and AI reshape the job market. Chad explains why getting advice from friends and family can accidentally trap you in fear, and why a mentor, coach, or trusted advisor can help you make fact-based decisions. You’ll hear three concrete actions you can take this week, including his “20 goals” exercise, rebuilding confidence by naming accomplishments, and starting small experiments like a side business. If this hits home, subscribe, share it with a brother who needs it, and leave a review so more men can find the conversation. What’s one small action you’ll take this week? Support the show
