Mechanical Engineering Made Simple

Looking for a podcast that actually speaks engineer? one that hones your technical edge, builds real-world fluency, and takes your understanding beyond theory? I’m Mason Wilson, and I built this show with AI to cut through the noise, break down BS and make the complex practical. We dig into everything: thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, hydraulics, heat transfer, stress and strain, ECT.

The Hidden Physics of Industrial Mixing

ASME Section VIII Division 1 uses formulas and thicker walls. The Hidden Physics of Industrial Mixing Division 2 uses analysis and can use thinner walls. Thin-wall math drops radial stress when the inside radius divided by wall thickness is over 10. Stress intensity is twice the maximum shear stress. Mixing Reynolds number is density times speed times diameter squared, divided by viscosity. Power scales with speed cubed and diameter to the fifth. One slip: shrink-fitting a hot outer shell over an inner core is multiwall construction. Autofrettage is different. It overpressures one thick wall so the inside yields and stays in compression. Industrial mixing starts with a tank that will not burst. Division 1 builds by rules and uses more steel. Division 2 maps the stress and can use less steel. A thin wall mainly sees hoop stress and lengthwise stress. A thick wall also sees stress through the thickness, and the inside takes almost all of it. Primary stress from pressure must stay below yield. Secondary stress from heat can yield a little and then relax. Impeller Reynolds number tells you if the liquid creeps in layers or turns turbulent. Plants mix to blend liquids, hold solids up, make emulsions, and move heat. A Rushton disk shreds gas. A hydrofoil moves a lot of liquid on low power. An anchor scrapes thick paste off a hot wall. Power jumps fast if you make the blade bigger, because it scales with diameter to the fifth. #IndustrialMixing #PressureVessel #ASME #ReynoldsNumber #Impeller #RushtonTurbine #Hydrofoil #AnchorImpeller #NewtonianFluid #NonNewtonianFluid #ProcessEngineering #MechanicalEngineering #FluidDynamics #HeatTransfer #Baffles What is industrial mixing?
