Save My Thyroid: Healing Tips for Hyperthyroidism and Hashimoto's

Dr. Eric Osansky DC, IFMCP

If you have hyperthyroidism (Graves' disease, toxic multinodular goiter, etc.) or Hashimoto's thyroiditis and are looking to do everything to save your thyroid gland, then the Save My Thyroid podcast is for you! Dr. Eric Osansky DC, IFMCP is the host, as he personally was diagnosed with Graves' disease in 2008 and was able to get into remission taking a natural approach. He created this podcast to help others with hyperthyroidism and Hashimoto's save their thyroid and regain their health. If you have hyperthyroidism then pretty much all of the episodes will benefit you, and if you have Hashimoto's you'll benefit from most of the guest expert episodes, as well as some of the "solo" episodes. The reason there is more of a focus on hyperthyroidism is because all of the other thyroid-related podcasts focus mostly on hypothyroidism/Hashimoto's, and since Dr. Eric personally dealt with Graves' disease he wanted this podcast to focus more on hyperthyroidism, although it will still offer plenty of value to those with hypothyroidism/Hashimoto's. Dr. Eric Osansky lives in Matthews NC with his wife, 2 daughters, 3 cats, 2 dogs, and 3 guinea pigs! He has been a practitioner for 20+ years, and has focused on helping people with thyroid and autoimmune thyroid conditions since 2009.

Hyperthyroid Healing: Beyond Diet and Lifestyle

In this episode, Dr. Eric Osansky discusses an important reality many people with hyperthyroidism and Graves’ disease eventually face: doing everything “right” with diet and lifestyle, yet still not experiencing complete healing. Dr. Eric explains why foundational practices like following an anti-inflammatory diet, reducing stress, improving sleep, and taking nutritional supplements are essential—but often only part of the solution. He dives into the deeper root causes commonly overlooked in conventional and even natural approaches to thyroid healing. Topics include gut infections such as H. pylori, parasites, SIBO, and candida overgrowth, along with environmental toxins and toxicants like mold, microplastics, glyphosate, and heavy metals. Dr. Eric also explores the importance of vagus nerve support, nervous system regulation, oral health, and reducing toxic burden through cleaner living environments and healthier daily habits. Throughout the episode, Dr. Eric emphasizes the importance of functional medicine testing and individualized care while also discussing common mistakes people make during their healing journey—such as relying solely on diet, avoiding testing altogether, or jumping from protocol to protocol. If you feel stuck despite making major lifestyle changes, this episode will help you better understand what may be missing and what steps to consider next in your healing journey. The Thyroid Fix with Dr. Amie Hornaman

In this episode, Dr. Eric Osansky welcomes back Dr. Amie Hornaman to discuss her new book, The Thyroid Fix. Together, they dive into the most common misconceptions surrounding hypothyroidism and Hashimoto’s, including why so many people continue to experience symptoms despite being told their thyroid labs are “normal.” Dr. Amie shares her personal motivation for writing the book and explains how she hopes to empower people to better understand their thyroid health and advocate for themselves. Dr. Amie breaks down what a complete thyroid panel should include, why testing only TSH is often insufficient, and the important roles of free T3 and reverse T3 in thyroid hormone conversion and metabolism. The conversation also explores autoimmune triggers, hormone fluctuations during pregnancy and menopause, the connection between stress and thyroid dysfunction, and why testosterone may play a protective role against autoimmunity. They also discuss T2 supplementation, common nutrient deficiencies, iodine, ashwagandha, and the growing conversation around GLP-1 medications. The episode closes with an encouraging discussion about hope, healing, and the importance of individualized thyroid care. Dr. Amie emphasizes that taking thyroid hormone replacement is not a failure and explains when Hashimoto’s may potentially be reversed or put into remission. If you want a clearer, more balanced understanding of Hashimoto’s, thyroid hormones, and what optimal thyroid health really looks like, you’ll get a lot out of this episode. Uncomplicating Wellness with Jenn Trepeck

In this episode, Dr. Eric Osansky sits down with health and lifestyle coach, podcast host, and author Jenn Trepeck to discuss her new book, Uncomplicating Wellness. Jenn shares her personal journey through years of dieting, weight struggles, and frustration before discovering that lasting health comes from understanding human biology instead of following restrictive wellness rules. Gluten, Grains, and Thyroid Autoimmunity

In this episode, Dr. Eric Osansky dives into the often-debated topic of gluten and grains—and their impact on thyroid health, especially in those with Graves’ disease and Hashimoto’s. While many people understand the need to avoid gluten, there’s still a lot of confusion around whether gluten-free grains are truly safe during the healing process. Dr. Eric explains why gluten is a common trigger for autoimmune conditions, touching on mechanisms like increased intestinal permeability (leaky gut), immune activation, and molecular mimicry. He also breaks down the bigger picture of grains as a whole, including how compounds like phytates, lectins, and even mold exposure can interfere with gut healing—even when gluten isn’t present. You’ll also hear his perspective on controversial topics like sourdough bread, eating gluten in other countries, and whether glyphosate is to blame. He wraps up by emphasizing a practical, balanced approach: while some people may tolerate certain grains, removing both gluten and grains—at least temporarily—can significantly improve your chances of restoring gut health and achieving remission. If you want a clearer, more balanced understanding of gluten, grains, and thyroid autoimmunity, you’ll get a lot out of this episode. Functional Training for Women 40 and Over with Vilmos Bond

In this episode, Dr. Eric chats with certified health coach and functional trainer Vilmos Bond to explore how exercise needs evolve—especially for women over 40 navigating perimenopause and menopause. Drawing from over a decade of experience, Vilmos shares how his approach to functional training goes beyond aesthetics, focusing instead on strength, mobility, and longevity. The conversation dives into common exercise mistakes, including sticking to repetitive routines, lifting too heavy too soon, and neglecting proper form. Vilmos explains how hormonal shifts impact recovery, cortisol levels, and energy, making it essential to adjust workout intensity and frequency. They also discuss the importance of resistance training for bone density, the pros and cons of high-intensity workouts, and how nutrition and meal timing play a role in overall performance and health. If you want a clearer, more balanced understanding of how to exercise smarter—not harder—during midlife, you’ll get a lot out of this episode. Functional Medicine Testing for Graves’ Disease & Hashimoto’s

In this episode, Dr. Eric Osansky breaks down the role of functional medicine testing for those dealing with Graves’ disease, Hashimoto’s, and other thyroid conditions. While conventional lab work can help diagnose thyroid disorders, it often falls short in uncovering the root causes behind autoimmunity. Dr. Eric shares his clinical perspective on how deeper testing can help identify underlying triggers and imbalances. Throughout the episode, he walks through the most commonly recommended tests, including adrenal panels, hormone testing, gut health assessments, and environmental toxin evaluations. He explains when each test may be helpful, the limitations of certain testing methods, and why more testing isn’t always better. Dr. Eric also addresses controversial topics like leaky gut testing, food sensitivity panels, and the balance between testing and foundational lifestyle changes. If you want a clearer, more balanced understanding of functional medicine testing for thyroid conditions—and how to approach it without overwhelm—you’ll get a lot out of this episode. The conversation also covers testing options like the IBS Smart test, limitations of breath testing, and how to better assess the gut microbiome.
