Jack

Hello, this is Jack, and welcome to FindingX. I’ve always enjoyed listening to true crime podcasts and stories from different countries. And after spending so much time hearing about cases from the US, Japan, Europe, and other places, I started wondering about something very simple: Would people outside China be interested in the strange and disturbing cases that happened here? That question is really why I started this show. There are many real cases in China that are tragic, mysterious, and sometimes surrounded by urban legends, folklore, supernatural rumors, or details that were never f

Episode 02 — The Boy in Red

In 2009, a thirteen-year-old boy named Kuang Zhijun was found dead inside his family’s rural home in Chongqing. The scene was bizarre: a red women’s swimsuit, white flowers, ropes, a wooden beam, and a heavy traditional scale weight. Police eventually ruled out homicide and suicide, but the unusual circumstances quickly took on a life of their own online. On Chinese forums, the case became linked to Maoshan magic, soul-binding rituals, the number thirteen, and the terrifying image of a “red-clothed ghost.” I first came across this case as a high school student, long before I understood how easily true crime, folklore, and internet rumor could blend together. In this episode, Aria and I go back to the original reports, examine the forensic explanation, and separate what was actually documented from what the internet added later. How did a real death become one of the most famous supernatural stories of the Chinese internet? This is Strange Cases.

The Flower Girl Who Never Came Home

In July 2019, nine-year-old Zhang Zixin left her home in Zhejiang with two adults who promised to take her to a wedding as a flower girl. They never went to Shanghai. Instead, the three travelled across several cities, leaving behind hotel records, surveillance footage, strange messages, and a trail that ended on a dark coastline. Hours after Zixin disappeared, the two adults travelled to another lake and died together. What followed was a case filled with unanswered questions: Why did they choose Zixin? Why invent a wedding? What did the mysterious numbers sent to her father mean? And were the later rumors of ghost marriage and cult rituals based on anything real? In this episode of Strange Cases, Jack and Aria examine the confirmed facts, the family background, the final journey, and the theories that turned a tragic crime into one of China’s strangest modern cases.
