    369. From Fiction to Fatal: William Savage & Patsy Byers

In Oklahoma, the Edmondson family was royalty. For decades, the Edmondson name had been synonymous with public service, integrity, and leadership. Some people even called them "the Kennedys of Oklahoma." It was because, generation after generation, they answered the call to serve. Sarah's grandfather served in the United States Congress. Her great-uncle was both the governor of Oklahoma and, later, a U.S. senator. Her uncle served as the state's attorney general. And her father, Jim Edmondson, would become a justice on the Oklahoma Supreme Court. Their reputation had been built on a deep commitment to the people of Oklahoma. The Edmondsons weren't known for scandal. And then came Sarah. Join Jen and Cam as we discuss ‘From Fiction to Fatal: William Savage & Patsy Byers.’ Shout out to Jason P, who suggested the episode! Introducing Our Takeaways From Paris Couture Week: Chanel, Dior, Balenciaga, and More! from The Run-Through with Vogue. Follow the show: The Run-Through with Vogue This week, Chloe Malle sat down with Vogue France's Claire Thomson-Jonville and Vogue Runway's chief critic Sarah Mower straight from the Balenciaga show at the Cité Internationale Universitaire de Paris to unpack the emotional highs of Couture Week's opening days. The trio's biggest topic was Pierpaolo Piccioli's first couture outing for the house, a collection they agreed felt unmistakably like his own after two seasons of ready-to-wear spent reconciling his sensibility with Demna's legacy. Under a blazing midday sun, with Cynthia Erivo, Naomi Watts, and Teyana Taylor among those fanning themselves in the front row, Piccioli sent out feather-heavy, richly colored looks. The conversation then rewound to Monday's openers, starting with Daniel Roseberry's Schiaparelli show, where a chrome runway and body-conscious, skin-like silicone pieces reflected an unusually experimental research process: rather than his usual research trip, Roseberry said he'd spent time at a company that manufactures silicone baby dolls. From there, talk turned to Jonathan Anderson's second couture collection for Dior, which the panel read as a loosening of the house's codes, with knotted, sculptural details inspired by artist Lynda Benglis softening the rigor of the bar suit into something more fluid and wearable. Matthieu Blazy's fairy-tale-inspired second couture show for Chanel was filled with joy and whimsy, with jacket linings stitched with each model's handwritten to-do list (i.e. “Pizza in fridge.”) They close on a lighter note about the practical realities of front-row life in a Paris heat wave, from designers rethinking fabric for a warming climate to the season's must-have accessory: a hand fan, tucked into every micro-bag that could fit one. The Run-Through with Vogue is your go-to podcast where fashion meets culture. Hosted by Chloe Malle, Head of Editorial Content, Vogue U.S.; Chioma Nnadi, Head of British Vogue; and Nicole Phelps, Director of Vogue Runway, each episode features the latest fashion news and exclusive designer and celebrity interviews. 368. The Boogeyman of Melbourne: Mr Cruel

    368. The Boogeyman of Melbourne: Mr Cruel On August 22nd, 1987, a man wearing a balaclava broke into a home in Lower Plenty, Australia. After tying up the parents and their young son, he brutally assaulted their eleven-year-old daughter. Then, he did something truly chilling: he made himself a snack, sat down, and ate it, leaving the family tied up and traumatized in the other rooms. This monster, who would eventually be dubbed “Mr. Cruel” by the media, was just getting started. He went on to terrorize the suburbs of Melbourne, executing highly planned child abductions that sparked one of the largest police investigations in Australian history. Then, just as suddenly as he arrived, he vanished. This case is still open. If you have any information on these abductions, please contact the Melbourne Police. 367. Hidden Fort: Jonathan Sellers and Charlie Keever

On March 27, 1993, the morning began like countless others for nine-year-old Jonathan Sellers and thirteen-year-old Charlie Keever.  The two boys set off on their bicycles, planning nothing more extraordinary than a day of roaming, pedaling through familiar places, killing time, enjoying the small freedoms of childhood.  Throughout the morning and early afternoon, the boys were seen moving easily through the neighborhood. Witnesses recalled spotting them at a local arcade and a pet adoption center, lingering the way kids do when the day feels wide open. Later, they stopped at a Rally’s hamburger stand, where they bought lunch before heading off again on their bikes. Their last confirmed sightings placed them in the Otay River Valley, an area the boys were known to frequent. Two witnesses briefly spoke with Jonathan and Charlie as they rode along the riverbed near a washed-out bridge. One of those witnesses would later recall a detail that stood out at the time and lingered afterward: a man driving a car across the open field, deliberately blocking the bike path. It struck her as strange, out of place in the quiet riverbed. Years later, she would identify a photograph of a blue sedan, similar in color and shape to the vehicle she had seen that day. As evening approached and the boys failed to return home, worry turned quickly into alarm. Family members began searching nearby streets and paths. Jonathan’s brother mentioned the riverbed trail where the boys often rode, prompting their mother to head there in a growing panic. What he didn’t think to mention, what no one realized in time, was a hidden “fort” tucked away in the brush, a place the boys liked to crawl into “like a little cave.”  Join Cam and Jen on this episode of Our True Crime Podcast named “Hidden Fort: Jonathan Sellers and Charlie Keever.” Listener discretion by @octoberpodVHS Editing and music by @theinkypawprint Sources:  http://www.signonsandiego.com/uniontrib/20040829/news_1m29erskine.html https://scocal.stanford.edu/opinion/people-v-erskine-34617 https://www.reddit.com/r/serialkillers/comments/1hbddzh/scott_erskine_a_repeat_offender_responsible_for/ https://www.nbcsandiego.com/news/local/scott-erskine-charlie-keever-jonathan-sellers-death-row-appeal-south-bay-murders/159324/ https://www.cbs8.com/article/news/local/scott-erskine-dies-while-on-death-row-due-to-covid-19/509-3e957e89-6775-45a2-9f5f-d08c02e0844c https://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/fl-xpm-2004-08-28-0408280095-story.html https://web.archive.org/web/20130409222853/http://www.meganslaw.ca.gov/cgi/prosoma.dll?searchby=offender&id=18601082E9187 https://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/fl-xpm-2004-08-28-0408280095-story.html https://www.mercurynews.com/2020/07/29/coronavirus-these-killers-died-on-san-quentins-death-row https://www.cbsnews.com/sanfrancisco/news/2-condemned-san-quentin-inmates-die-of-apparent-covid-19-complications/ Who the (BLEEP) Did I Marry?  Season 5, Episode 7 titled "The Face of Death" Learn more about your ad choices. 366. Monster on the M1: The Murders of Samo Paull & Tracey Turner

The UK Midlands is a region steeped in history and folklore, from the ancient Kingdom of Mercia to the birthplace of Shakespeare. But on a freezing, misty day in December 1993, a peaceful village right off the M1 motorway became the backdrop for a living nightmare. While driving past a dirty station wagon parked on a grassy verge near Junction 20, a local witness noticed a passenger sitting bolt upright in the backseat wearing a jet-black dress. It was a sight that made her blood run cold; she knew with absolute certainty that the woman was already dead. What followed was a massive police hunt for a transient predator who used England’s motorways to hide in plain sight, Alun Kyte, the Midlands Ripper. 365. The Predator of East Harlem: Arohn Kee

In January 1991, 13-year-old Paola Illera arrived home from school and stepped into the elevator of her East Harlem apartment building. She was only moments from her family's 30th-floor apartment, but she never made it upstairs. Hours later, her body was discovered miles from where she was last seen, launching an investigation that would haunt detectives for years. As fear spread through the neighborhood, investigators searched for answers in a case that seemed to offer few clues. Yet hidden among the evidence was a tiny trace that would eventually help uncover the truth. This week, we examine the murder of Paola Illera, the long hunt for her killer, and the string of crimes that terrorized East Harlem throughout the 1990s.
