Episode 845: The Isle of Man TT troubles

The Isle of Man TT has been and gone for another year! This year is one that will stick in our minds for years to come but unfortunately not for the right reasons. The spirits were damper than the weather after two fatalities and a number of injuries. Tributes paid to Dan Ingham and Alan Oversby sadly lost their lives doing what they love. We had serious injuries for Maria Costello, Shaun Parker, Ryan and Callum Crowe, Jamie Cringle, Erno Kostamo and lucky boy Michael Evans walked away from two big crashes. Our thoughts and well wishes go to all of those involved. The crashes in the sidecars saw the competition suspended for the remainder, meaning no more sidecar action. When the motorcycle racing was allowed to get going, two men stood above the rest, Michael Dunlop increasing his tally and Dean Harrison getting those ever elusive wins. Some records broken, along with some hearts. The island was wetter than an otters pocket, which meant we lost a lot of racing to the natural elements as well as to the crashes. All in all, a dark and damp TT race week came and went as fast as Dean Harrison on that Honda.  A number of Gofundme pages were set up for those lost and injured, so if you can, please donate to these heroes: https://www.gofundme.com/f/dan-inghams-family https://www.gofundme.com/f/maria-costello-mbe-road-to-recovery https://www.gofundme.com/f/shaun-parker-road-to-recovery https://www.gofundme.com/f/pvaaa-help-get-jamie-back-on-his-feet   Thank you for listening to the podcasts, new things are coming soon, a new website, merch, blogs and much more. Episode 844: MotoGP Balaton Park – Hungary For The Ton

MotoGP Round 8 came from the Balaton Park circuit in Hungary, almost universally despised as a venue for world championship motorcycle racing. In the news we have changes coming for race starts, with the ride height devices going from Silverstone onwards and grid positions being more spaced out from the German round. There was also the sensational news concerning Leopard racing and alleged engine tampering in Moto3. Watch this space on that particular story. In the racing, Moto3 ended with a nasty incident in what was otherwise the Max Quilles show. Gonzales continued to dominate in Moto2. In MotoGP, Marc Marquez and Pedro Acosta provided the main race action entertainment, with Marc overcoming his shoulder difficulties to take the double and record his 100th win across all 3 Grand Prix classes. The main race was dominated by a first turn incident instigated by Jorge Martin, who managed to take out 4 other riders and invite the ire of Aprilia factory team boss Massimo Rivola. Next up Brno in the Czech Republic, a venue rather more fitting for the MotoGP circus. Episode 842: Moto GP - Italy Expects and Mugello Delivers

Jim and Rich are joined by Karl Hun, who just returned from the races at Mugello, to talk about all the racing action.  Moto3 was as exciting as ever.  It kicked off with qualifying when many riders missed their final laps because they waited in the pits too long.  Quiles never could catch a tow and ended up starting from 15th.  He soon raced his way to the front but almost high sided in the last corner on the penultimate and finished off the podium for the first time this year.  The Moto2 was the best one of the weekend as all the intrigue was during the last four laps.  Viette was closing fast on the leaders after failing to get out of QP1.  He tired his best but could not catch Gonzalez.  Ortola's great ride was halted by a technical problem.  Finally a shout out to Escrig who had an excellent qualifying but was taken off the track by Lopez, who received a long lap penalty. The MotoGP race saw Aprilia sweep the front row in qualifying, set a new top speed record of 229.3MPH and wins in both the sprint and GP on Sunday.  Marc Marquez returned to racing and finish fourth in the Sprint and seventh in the Gp after a race long battle with future team mate Acosta. If possible please donate to Maria Costello recovery fund.  She was paralyzed from the chest down in one of the sidecar races at the TT  https://www.gofundme.com/f/maria-costello-mbe-road-to-recovery Finally to all of our listeners, please support the show financially if you can and don’t forget to connect with us via the social media channels and spread the word amongst your like-minded race fan friends.
