    The Long Island Serial Killer: Rex Heuermann Is Guilty

    On April 8, 2026, serial killer Rex Heuermann pled guilty. He murdered Melissa Barthelemy, Maureen Brainard‑Barnes, Megan Waterman, Amber Lynn Costello, Sandra Costilla, Valerie Mack, and Jessica Taylor. He also admitted to murdering Karen Vergata. Later that day, New York's Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney appeared at a press conference with Suffolk County, New York state, and federal law enforcement officials, as well as representatives of the victims' families.
