    This episode, we highlight some of the great events/talks/lessons learned and interviews from amazing speakers at the 2021 CWIS Summit, Denver, CO. Special thank you to all our speakers, volunteers, leadership and sponsors for contributing to what I thought was a huge success. Hope to see you all next year at CWIS 2022!

    Introducing The "Riblets"

    This month we introduce a new series we'll be intermittently running on the Ribcast called the "Riblets".  The series will guest host various general surgery residency and fellowship groups from institutions across the globe- they'll take over the Ribcast and produce whatever kind of episode they want!  Today we welcome Dr Jordan Kirsch (Trauma Critical Care Fellow), Dr Erin Andrade, and Dr Annie Hess (General Surgery Residents) from Washington University School of Medicine in St Louis in producing a journal club episode. In fact it was Dr Kirsch who came up with the series name- The Riblets... Thanks Wash U for stepping it up!

    The Scapula!

    In Todays episode we welcome Dr Peter Cole (well known to many as one of the kings of Scapula ORIF), in discussing all things scapula and more. Specifically we’ll focus on recognizing surgical orthopaedic injuries associated with rib fractures and SSRF, lateral implosion forequarter injuries, indications and outcomes for scapula ORIF, and the need for combined care strategies in these complex chest wall injured patients.

    This Ribcast is meant to introduce a second CWIS podcast we'll be posting.  Please subscribe to "FractureLine":  the official weekly news feed from the Chest Wall Injury Society- where we will listen to all the bottom line CWIS updates, shout outs, fun facts and weekly banter, in 10 minutes or less!  Ensure to subscribe to FractureLine as well as Ribcast. FractureLine as a medium for communication, news and event promotion; and Ribcast for clinical/educational interviews with leaders in chest wall injury. Enjoy both!

    Industry and Expert Relationship Series, Part 2

    In Todays episode we will be discussing the second part of our industry vs expert relationship series.  Last week we had the opportunity to explore the topic with two of CWIS's prominent members, Dr Adam Kaye and Dr Marc DeMoya; this week we hear from two of CWIS's core leadership, Dr Tom White and SarahAnn Whitbeck.

    CWIS: Industry and Expert Relationships

    In Todays episode we will be discussing industry vs expert relationships and how they are intertwined in the life of CWIS members. Since its inception CWIS and its surgeon members have recognized the importance of industry relationships in developing their professional skills to help our chest wall injured patients.  A healthy relationship between professional medical societies and industry can promote optimal and excellent health care and for CWIS this remains true.  Collaboration lead to research, innovation, new and/or improved treatments, and expanded educational activities for surgeons treating patients with chest wall injury.   BUT!, the relationship between all professional medical societies (not just CWIS) and industry will always and should always be scrutinized and understood. Thats our goal for this Ribcast!

    CWIS Research Symposium

    In Todays episode we will be joined by Dr David Morris and Dr Brian Kim in introducing and promoting the Chest wall Injury Societies Research Symposium, a two day virtual event, hosted this October 21st and 29th. The symposium is designed to provide a forum for discussion and collaboration between members and other healthcare professionals with shared interest and expertise in chest wall injury research.
