    Have Canadians been lied to about residential schools?

    In 2022, news media across the globe reported that hundreds of mass graves containing the remains of Indigenous children had been discovered at a former residential school site in Canada. This turned out ⁠not to be true⁠. Nothing had been discovered at all. Yet the narrative of not only the “mass graves,” but systemic abuse and even “genocide” perpetrated at these residential schools, lives on. Canada’s relationship to Indigenous peoples and history is a strong one—tied to funding, legislation, education, land acknowledgements, policy, and of course guilt. But is it accurate?     The Canadian government moves to advance free speech crackdowns and MAID deaths

    At one time, ⁠Andrew Lawton⁠ was struggling with mental health issues, suicidal himself. Had MAID been an option for him then, he may well have taken it. But things got better, and now he is living a happy and fulfilling life, very glad he didn't take that irreversible step. But for many Canadians, they might not have the chance to recover. ⁠Andrew Lawton⁠ is the Member of Parliament for Elgin—St. Thomas—London South. Before being elected in 2025, Andrew was a broadcaster, journalist, author, and the managing editor of True North.
