English Story: Irregular Verbs with Dance Marathons

The other day, I was staring at my list of common Irregular Verbs, trying to think of a lesson I could create with 10 of them. Immediately, I saw some potential! Swing -> Swung, Fling -> Flung , Slide -> Slid.  Somehow the clump of words I selected led me to one of the most bizarre stories I’ve ever heard about U.S. culture and history: Dance Marathons of the 1930s. Imagine people dancing for days on end, even sleeping while dancing, for the chance to win some cash. It’s a crazy story, and I hope you enjoy it! In part one, you’ll learn how to use the common expression “to keep someone on their toes,” you’ll hear a joke, and you’ll work on your American English pronunciation! 338. The Confidence Sessions: The Two Beliefs That Drive Action

What actually makes you take action when you feel confident? In this Confidence Session, I continue breaking down how confidence works by looking at two important beliefs: “I can do it” and “it can happen.” We’ll explore what happens when one of those is missing, why feeling nervous doesn’t necessarily mean you lack confidence, and what this could look like in your meetings, presentations and career.  Enjoy! Mitch: [0:23] Hi, everybody. Isi: [0:25] Welcome to another episode. But now I am doing this. Oh, no. Mitch: [0:28] You're doing it. Isi: [0:29] Oh, no. Well, let's not do this. Mitch: [0:32] I pointed at you. Isi: [0:32] It's Easy English Podcast. We're starting now. Mitch: [0:37] Wow, what a surprise. Isi: [0:38] Whoever listened before knows that I got a bit annoyed that, not annoyed, I thought it was actually, now we talk about it even longer, that Mitch always says, welcome to the Easy English Podcast. Mitch: [0:48] Every episode. Isi: [0:50] When you actually probably know that it's the Easy English Podcast you're listening to. Mitch: [0:53] I just want to be formal, like you're opening your front door to somebody. Isi: [0:57] Yeah, but you're wasting people's time, and now I'm wasting people's time. So we start now. Mitch: [1:02] What are we talking about today? You're taking control again. Isi: [1:05] Yeah, I wanted to talk to you about another conversational topic. We have just talked about, if you listened to our last podcast, about flatmate conversations; living with people in houses or flats, in the UK. It's now, you would think it's similar, but it's not. We will, today, talk about small talk with neighbours. Isi: [1:37] Those people you might not know that well. They might live up your street, 10 houses up your street, and you just know them from, you know; "hiya, lovely today, huh?" Like, that kind of conversation. And this kind of small talk, I will say as an expat living in the UK, is very important. 3.2.21A《失眠的人》Story

Welcome to 听故事说中文, the podcast where stories come alive to help you improve your Chinese language proficiency and cultural competency. Today, we're talking about something so many of us can relate to: tossing and turning in the middle of the night. We'll follow the story of Chen Mo. On paper, she has the perfect life—a high-level corporate job, a happy family, and a beautiful home. Even her bosses constantly praise her. Yet, sleep completely evades her. After ruling out all the usual suspects like grief, job insecurity, or family drama, a breakthrough with a therapist reveals a hidden culprit. It turns out, her biggest stressor isn't her actual workload, but her own relentless perfectionism and the exhausting, self-imposed pressure to be flawless. Let's dive into her story, explore this modern dilemma, and learn some great vocabulary along the way! ************************************************************ Support Our Podcast → https://www.patreon.com/learningchinesethroughstories If our podcast brings value to your life and you'd like to help us keep creating great content, consider becoming a patron for as little as $9 a month. 121 - Chats with Shana: 5 Surprising Things About Los Angeles

We've lived in Los Angeles for about 5 months and spend a lot of time exploring. I'm happy to say that the city is growing on us - we LOVE the restaurant scene here and checking out the stunning mansions, beautiful beaches and fun neighborhoods. There are a few stereotypes about Los Angeles that you may have been exposed to if you watch films made in Hollywood. Up until this point, I've been pleasantly surprised to disagree with most of them. What do you think about these stereotypes?
