6-Step Science-Backed Morning Reset (Boost Focus, Lower Stress & Improve Your Mood All Day!)

So many of us wake up and immediately feel behind. We reach for our phones, scroll through other people’s lives, and start reacting before we’ve even chosen how we want to feel. Today, Jay shares a powerful truth: the first 60 to 90 minutes after you wake up are the most programmable moments of your day. Your brain is in a unique, highly impressionable state and instead of using that window intentionally, most of us give it away. Jay breaks down six simple, science-backed habits that can transform your mornings without extreme routines or unrealistic expectations. He explains why hitting snooze actually makes you more tired, how morning sunlight boosts your energy and improves your sleep later that night, and how just 60 to 90 seconds of cold water can build stress resilience. He also shares the benefits of seven minutes of movement, a short handwritten journaling practice to clear mental clutter, and why delaying your phone for the first hour protects your focus and emotional baseline. In this episode, you'll learn: How to Stop Hitting Snooze for Good How to Reset Your Nervous System in 90 Seconds How to Activate Your Brain in 7 Minutes How to Increase Focus Before 8AM How to Protect Your First Hour from Distractions How to Reprogram Your Mind Before the Day Begins Start with one habit. Let it be simple. Let it be sustainable. Because when you protect your mornings, you strengthen your mindset. And when you strengthen your mindset, you change the direction of your days and eventually, your life. Session 454: Black Single Mothers

Black single mothers have long been the subject of stereotypes, political debate, and cultural criticism. For decades, narratives in media and public discourse have framed them as the root of social problems rather than recognizing the complex realities of their lives, families, and communities. Today’s guest is writer and cultural critic Jamilah Lemieux, whose work has helped shape conversations about race, gender, and culture for more than a decade. Beginning her career in the Black feminist blogosphere, Jamilah has written and edited for many major publications and has become known for her sharp cultural commentary and advocacy for Black women and girls. In this conversation, we discuss her new book Black. Single. Mother., where she explores the realities of single motherhood through her own story as well as the stories of other Black women. We talk about the stigma attached to single mothers, the importance of community and co-parenting, how media narratives shape perceptions of Black families, and what it means to redefine family structures outside of traditional expectations. About the Podcast The Therapy for Black Girls Podcast is a weekly conversation with Dr. Joy Harden Bradford, a licensed Psychologist in Atlanta, Georgia, about all things mental health, personal development, and all the small decisions we can make to become the best possible versions of ourselves. That's where the real magic begins. Please subscribe, rate and review this pod -- and share it to your social media to spread the good vibes 🤙🏽 Follow me on IG: https://www.instagram.com/lifewithranela/ Stay tuned for coaching, courses, and more ways to work together! About Ranela: Ranela Kaligithi is a therapist, coach, actor, and life enthusiast. Growing up in a pastor's family, she moved from state to state often, navigating the complexities of being an asian child of immigrants, the pressures of church expectations, purity culture, and being a woman in patriarchal society. Ranela went through several iterations of herself after her identity began to shatter in her late 20's, leaving her with the work of reconstructing it all from the ground up.  After years of inner work, therapy, journaling, identity shifts and being deep in her Saturn return, she found her spark and joy in helping others navigate their own journey. She completed her Masters in Counseling Psychology, became a therapist and studied to be a coach, and began the 2nd act of life, dedicated to living a life of authenticity and gratitude. Ranela is a self-proclaimed "ice cream connoisseur", ocean enthusiast, a proud jack of all trades, including acting, scuba diving, wellness, and all things fitness-related.

WORLD’S TOP OBGYN Dr. Aliabadi: The #1 Hormone Problem Affecting Millions of Women (And The 4 Changes That Can Reverse It)

For many women, the real challenge isn’t just unexplained health problems, it’s being heard when they seek help. Jay sits down with Dr. Thaïs Aliabadi, or "Dr. A", to unpack a silent crisis affecting millions of women around the world: undiagnosed PCOS and endometriosis. This isn’t just a discussion about fertility, but a masterclass on hormones, inflammation, mental health, and the painful reality of medical gaslighting. PCOS, a condition shaped by insulin resistance, hormonal imbalance, chronic inflammation, and neurological disruption, is often overlooked, leaving women struggling with anxiety, depression, weight gain, irregular periods, and infertility without answers. Dr. A shares how insulin resistance acts as the “first domino,” triggering a domino effect that impacts everything from ovulation to mood, and emphasizes that true healing requires addressing all four pillars, not just masking symptoms with birth control. Dr. A challenges the outdated belief that painful periods are “normal,” explaining that severe pain, painful sex, chronic bloating, bladder symptoms, and bowel discomfort are signs something deeper may be wrong. She reveals that diagnosis takes an average of 9–11 years, and that many women are told their pain is psychological before they’re ever taken seriously. Through both science and lived clinical experience, she makes it clear: when inflammation and hormones are out of balance, mental health suffers too. Anxiety, depression, brain fog, and eating disorders are not personal failings, they are often physiological signals that something deeper is happening in the body. In this interview, you'll learn: How to Recognize the Signs of PCOS Early How to Reduce Insulin Resistance Naturally How to Tell if Your Period Pain Is “Normal” How to Protect Your Fertility in Your 20s and 30s How to Balance Hormones Beyond Birth Control How to Spot Hidden Symptoms of Endometriosis How to Lower Inflammation Through Lifestyle Changes If there’s one thing to take away from this conversation, it’s this: your body is not working against you, it’s communicating with you. Pain is not weakness. It is a signal and you deserve to have those signals taken seriously. If You’re Going Through a Breakup, Listen To This

If a breakup has ever left you feeling physically sick, emotionally lost, and not feeling like yourself, nothing is wrong with you. You’re grieving. Today, Jay speaks directly to anyone navigating the quiet devastation of heartbreak, reminding them that nothing is “wrong” with them for feeling the way they do. He explains that breakups don’t just hurt emotionally, they activate the same neural pathways as physical pain and withdrawal. What you’re experiencing isn’t weakness or failure; it’s grief. Jay reframes the end of a relationship not simply as losing a person, but as losing a future you imagined, the routines your nervous system depended on, and the version of yourself that existed within that relationship. Jay walks us through the five stages of breakup grief, showing how numbness is a form of protection, why the mind gets stuck in rumination after loss, and how anger can signal the return of self-respect. Rather than rushing to “move on,” he encourages simple practices like building small routines, writing down obsessive thoughts, setting boundaries, and resisting the highlight reel your mind creates that makes you only remember the good. The stages aren’t a straight line, but a map that helps you move through uncertainty with more grace and self-compassion. In this episode, you'll learn: How to Rebuild Your Routine After a Breakup How to Break the Cycle of Rumination How to Express Anger in a Healthy Way How to Set Boundaries That Protect Your Healing How to Move Through Sadness Without Rushing It How to Create Meaning After Loss Be gentle with yourself in this season. Lean on the people who show up for you. Rebuild your routines slowly. One day, this chapter will no longer be the center of your story, it will be the turning point that makes you wiser, stronger, and more secure in who you are. Trying to Understand QiGong with @HoldenQiGong

In this episode, Dr. K is joined by Qigong Master Lee Holden to explore how ancient energy practices can be used to treat modern mental health struggles like burnout, anxiety, and distraction,. They bridge the gap between Eastern concepts of "Chi" and Western medical science, debating whether "aliveness" is a mystical force or simply advanced physiology and bio-electricity,,,. What to expect in this episode: • The Power-Up Sequence: A guided five-minute practice designed to clear stagnant energy and provide an immediate boost for those feeling sluggish or physically stuck after sitting too long,,. • Building Emotional Immunity: Dr. K and Lee discuss "heart chi deficiency" and demonstrate a routine to protect sensitive individuals from absorbing the stress and negativity of the world around them,,. • The Earth Center for Focus: A deep dive into "student syndrome" and how to use grounding movements to overcome brain fog, rumination, and the constant pull of digital distractions,,,. • The Science of Sleep: An analysis of why it takes significant energy to fall asleep and how balancing your internal "Yin and Yang" throughout the day determines the quality of your rest,,,. • Systemic Fixes vs. Behavioral Change: A candid discussion on why modern institutions—from schools to big pharma—often reward quick-fix results like grades or medication over the deeper, more effective path of learning and habit change.HG Coaching : https://bit.ly/46bIkdo Dr. K's Guide to Mental Health: https://bit.ly/44z3SztHG Memberships : https://bit.ly/3TNoMVf Products & Services : https://bit.ly/44kz7x0 HealthyGamer.GG: https://bit.ly/3ZOopgQ Learn more about your ad choices. You’re Setting Goals That Quietly Work Against You

Dr. K breaks down the science of why 80% of New Year's resolutions fail and how to use behavioral research to make changes stick. He explains why common strategies like accountability partners can backfire and how to move from simply wanting a change to being ready to achieve it. • The Accountability Trap: Outsourcing responsibility to a partner often leads to shared failure rather than sustained personal growth. • The 14-Failure Rule: Data shows that people who successfully change for two years fail an average of 14 times along the way. • Preparation Over Desire: Simply wanting a change has no bearing on success; you must be prepared and ready for the cost of change. • Build Self-Efficacy: Setting specific, attainable "SMART" goals proves to your mind that you are actually capable of succeeding. • Choose Approach Goals: Moving toward a positive reward is more sustainable than just trying to move away from a negative state.
