    The missionary soldier

David Eubank calls himself a missionary soldier. A former US Special Forces soldier, he is now an ordained Christian Reverend and founder of the Free Burma Rangers, a humanitarian group working in some of the world’s most dangerous conflict zones. He prays before missions, runs towards gunfire, rescues the wounded, and says love is what keeps him there. But David's story is also morally complicated. He has carried dying children from battlefields. He has watched friends and colleagues die. And he has killed. Rajeev Gupta speaks to David about what it means to follow Jesus in a firefight. David reflects on his upbringing as a missionary child in Thailand, his years in the US military, and the call that took him into Burma’s long-running civil war. He describes the moments when his faith and a desire for revenge came into conflict. But how does David know he is on the right side? How does he justify taking his wife and children into war zones? And how does he keep believing in God after seeing so much suffering? This episode of The Documentary, comes to you from Heart and Soul, exploring personal approaches to spirituality from around the world.

Biography Flash Justin Bieber Embraces Fatherhood and Family Life in a Powerful New Chapter

Justin Bieber Biography Flash a weekly Biography. Justin Bieber’s past few days have been all about family, quiet power moves, and the ongoing recalibration of life in the spotlight. According to Harper’s Bazaar, Justin shared a new batch of Instagram photos featuring Hailey and their baby boy, Jack Blues Bieber, including sweet, candid moments that signal he is embracing fatherhood as a defining new chapter in his biography. That kind of public, family-centered posting is more than content; it is a reputational reset from global pop phenom to committed husband and hands-on dad, something future biographers will treat as a clear turning point. On the business and visibility front, there have not been major new tour announcements or album drops in the last few days from primary outlets like Billboard, Variety, or Rolling Stone, which suggests Bieber is still in a relatively low-key, post-tour and post-scandal consolidation phase. When Justin does go quiet like this, it typically precedes a tightly planned rollout, but any talk of imminent new music or a surprise era launch circulating on fan accounts and TikTok remains speculative and unconfirmed by his team or major music trades. Social media chatter has continued to recirculate his recent live performance clips, including festival-era footage such as his Beauty and a Beat appearance at Coachella that has been reshared widely on YouTube Shorts, reinforcing his catalog and reminding both fans and industry of his enduring live draw. While this is not “new” in a hard-news sense, it keeps his performance legacy active during a relatively news-light stretch. In the rumor department, various blogs and social feeds continue to recycle narratives about relationship drama and alleged marital strain, but without fresh reporting from established outlets like People, Entertainment Tonight, or The Hollywood Reporter, these remain in the realm of unverified speculation and should be treated as such for any serious biographical record. The only on-the-record storyline supported by reliable media in recent days is the image of Justin Bieber leaning into domestic life, appearing content and grounded with Hailey and their baby. That’s your latest Justin Bieber Biography Flash, where even a quieter week tells us a lot about the long game of a pop icon growing into his next act. Thank you for listening, and make sure you subscribe to never miss an update on Justin Bieber, and search the term Biography Flash for more great biographies. Thanks for listening. Jamaica’s sacred heartbeat

At a hillside gathering in Watt Town, Jamaica, drums, prayer, and song converge in a living tradition that reaches beyond the island and across the generations to Africa. Kirt Henry is part of the community of revivalists who worked to secure Unesco recognition for a practice long misunderstood and marginalised. In this intimate journey into Jamaican spiritualism, scholar and practitioner, Kirt, reflects on faith shaped by memory, resilience, and ancestral connection. Through stories of healing, trance, ritual clothing and the sacred language of the body, Kirt explores a spiritual world where the boundaries between the earthly and the unseen are fluid. Revivalism emerges, not as a relic of the past, but as a way of life, one that carries the weight of colonial trauma while offering belonging, continuity and hope. This episode of The Documentary, comes to you from Heart and Soul, exploring personal approaches to spirituality from around the world.

Tina Turner and the Dance That Conquered Australia

In Australia, no wedding or school dance is complete without the Nutbush, Australia’s unofficial national dance. The Nutbush – a simple line dance to the song “Nutbush City Limits,” by Ike and Tina Turner – has become as stereotypically Australian as kangaroos, boomerangs, and Vegemite. And yet, hardly anyone outside of Australia even knows the Nutbush exists. Here at Decoder Ring, we certainly didn’t – until we started getting emails from Australians asking us to investigate its origins. How did an American song become the soundtrack for an Australian national tradition? Who invented the iconic steps, and why does every Australian know them? Our producer Max Freedman put on his dancing shoes to get some answers. The global, century-spanning story of the Nutbush involves Australia, Tennessee, Denmark, primary schools, gay discos, and demonstrates that even the goofiest cultural touchstones can go surprisingly deep. In this episode you’ll hear from culture journalists David Mack and Angus Kidman; Nutbush researchers Panizza Allmark and Jon Stratton; dance historians Erica Okamura and Richard Powers; Dr. Fiona Chatteur, Jeremy Santolin, and Brian Kerr. This episode was written and produced by Max Freedman and edited by Evan Chung, our supervising producer. Merritt Jacob is Senior Technical Director. If you have any cultural mysteries you want us to decode, email us at DecoderRing@slate.com or leave a message on our hotline at (347) 460-7281. Get more of Decoder Ring with Slate Plus!
