EP-19 Travel Safety with Global Secure Resources

Ingrid Centurion recently interviewed Carrie Pasquarello, founder of Global Secure Resources, a threat-mitigation company dedicated to keeping travelers safe abroad. During their conversation, Pasquarello addressed the growing complexity of global criminal activity and how it impacts international travelers—from opportunistic street crime and organized theft rings to cyber exploitation and politically driven unrest. She emphasized that modern travel risk is no longer limited to high-risk regions; even traditionally “safe” destinations are experiencing spikes in crime targeting tourists. Key insights she shared include: Pre-travel intelligence is critical. Travelers should understand local crime trends, cultural norms, transportation risks, and safe zones before arrival. Situational awareness is your first line of defense. Criminals often target distracted individuals—those visibly unfamiliar with their surroundings. Digital security matters. Public Wi-Fi exploitation, SIM-swap fraud, and device theft can escalate quickly into financial or identity crimes. Layered protection strategies work best. This may include vetted drivers, secure lodging selection, itinerary tracking, emergency response planning, and real-time monitoring. Corporate responsibility is increasing. Organizations have a duty of care to protect employees traveling internationally, especially in volatile regions. Pasquarello underscored that preparation—not fear—is the goal. By combining intelligence, planning, and professional support, individuals and companies can significantly reduce exposure to risk while maintaining confidence in global travel.

EP-18 Interview with David Stumbo, Candidate for SC Attorney General

Ingrid Centurion interviews David Stumbo, Candidate for South Carolina Attorney General. In this episode, we find out who is David Stumbo. He is the Eighth Judicial Circuit Solicitor in South Carolina, he serves as the elected chief prosecutor for the 8th Circuit, which includes Abbeville, Greenwood, Laurens, and Newberry counties. He’s a Republican and has served as solicitor since 2013, winning re-election multiple times — making him one of the longest-serving prosecutors in the Upstate. A longtime prosecutor: before becoming solicitor, Stumbo worked in the Attorney General’s Office as an assistant (including in the State Grand Jury unit, which tackles complex crimes such as narcotics conspiracies, gangs, public corruption, human trafficking, computer crimes, and more). As solicitor, he has personally tried numerous major felony cases (including murders, violent crimes, and drug trafficking) and overseen a dramatic increase in conviction rates across his circuit. His legal career includes: Child Safety & Abuse: Stumbo has prioritized prosecuting child predators and organized panels (e.g., on Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect for mandatory reporters). Human Trafficking: under his leadership, his office partners with law enforcement and community groups to combat trafficking and related crimes. Domestic Violence: he heads the 8th Circuit Domestic Violence Task Force, bringing community members and law enforcement together to address domestic abuse issues.  Public Safety: his prosecutorial priorities include fighting violent crime, drug trafficking, and other serious offenses with strong courtroom strategies. Stumbo officially launched his campaign for South Carolina Attorney General in 2025, emphasizing his record as a conservative, law-and-order prosecutor. He frames his AG campaign around issues such as crushing violent crime and drug trafficking (including fentanyl), dismantling human trafficking networks, combatting corruption, defending the Constitution, and supporting law enforcement. From his career and campaign statements, Stumbo’s background reflects: Deep courtroom experience and a focus on prosecution over plea deals in serious cases. A strong emphasis on community safety, abuse prevention, and collaborative criminal justice efforts. A politically conservative approach to law enforcement and public policy in his campaign messaging.

EP-15 Interview with Veasna Roeun on the 2025 Thailand-Cambodia Conflict

The 2025 Thailand–Cambodia Conflict — Displacement, Peace, and Strategic Stakes. In this episode, we sit down with U.S. Army combat veteran and infantryman Veesna Roeun to discuss the deeply troubling Thailand–Cambodia border conflict of 2025 from the perspective of concerned outsiders calling for peace and humanitarian awareness. The conversation opens with an overview of how the conflict, rooted in long-standing territorial disputes and historical grievances, erupted into open hostilities in July 2025 and again later in the year, drawing in heavy artillery exchanges, airstrikes, and significant civilian displacement. Analysts estimate hundreds of thousands of civilians were forced from their homes amid the fighting, with mass evacuations occurring on both sides of the border and severe humanitarian needs emerging in displacement sites and host communities. We reference and unpack the Institute of Strategic Studies (IISS) article, “The complex fault lines of the Thai–Cambodian armed conflict,” by Morgan Michaels and Evan A. Laksmana (August 2025). The IISS analysis highlights just how layered the conflict has become: beyond historical territorial claims — including contested areas near iconic temple complexes — there are intersecting geopolitical pressures, domestic political dynamics, and broader Southeast Asian security challenges that have made the dispute difficult to resolve through traditional diplomacy alone. While the International Court of Justice has ruled Cambodia owns the Preah Vihear temple complex decades ago, ambiguity still surrounds the demarcation of the surrounding land, fueling nationalist sentiments and military postures on both sides. The scale of displacement — with figures ranging into the hundreds of thousands — has overwhelmed local infrastructure and strained access to clean water, health care, and protection for vulnerable populations, such as children and women. Who benefits from escalation?Veasna and Ingrid Centurion explore how various actors may gain strategically from continued tensions: Nationalist political blocs within both countries may find rallying support through border narratives that deflect from internal governance issues.Military establishments benefit from heightened defense budgets, recruitment, and entrenched authority in national security matters.External powers and regional actors — including major states with competing strategic interests in Southeast Asia — may find leverage through diplomatic influence or defense ties when conflict persists. Some observers suggest that proxies in broader US–China strategic competition could be implicated in how each side perceives security incentives. The discussion also touches on the need for law enforcement and international law adherence, emphasizing that while border disputes should be resolved through legal and diplomatic channels, enforcement of agreed mechanisms (such as cease-fire monitoring, observer missions, and de-escalation protocols) is essential to protect civilians and prevent future flare-ups. Finally, Veasna and Ingrid Centurion reflect on the human cost: displaced families yearning for peace, the importance of calling for humanity above politics, and the urgent need for robust regional conflict-management frameworks that prioritize people over territorial pride or power politics.
