Boundaries Are an Act of Connection | Episode 425

Resentment often begins where an important boundary remains unspoken. In Episode 425, we examine why boundaries exist in every healthy relationship—and why setting one is not necessarily an act of rejection. A clear boundary tells another person what matters, what you are willing to participate in, and what you will do if the line is crossed. We also explore the difference between boundaries and preferences, the discomfort of receiving someone else’s boundary, and the danger of becoming so rigid that healthy limits turn into walls. The goal isn’t to create relationships where boundaries are never crossed. The goal is to communicate clearly, follow through without cruelty, and leave a path back when repair is possible. Boundaries cannot control another person. They can only govern how you choose to respond.

The Smile That Hides the Pain – Why So Many Black Women Mask Their Mental Health Crises | MINISODE

Hey lady! You know we love a mental health check-in, so we want you to answer one simple question for us…are you good? We mean that for real, are you good? Are you ok? How are you? Ok, that was three questions but you get the gist. This week, Dr. Dom and Terri stop by to holler at the strong Black women in our community to let them know that we see you. We see you getting up each day and giving it your all even if on the inside it is a struggle. This week they invite you to place the mask to the side and look in the mirror and assess how you are feeling and how you are doing. You can lay the armor down and tend to the parts of yourself that are tender without judgment. Doing so can help you avert full on meltdown or burnout because truthfully lady, ain’t nobody got time for that. So do yourself a favor, give yourself a hug or take a nap and allow yourself to validate your own humanity with self-compassion. As always, we have a community of like-hearted women who will welcome you with open arms. You are not out here alone, lady. Corey Robinson | Who Are You When the Crowd Is Gone? | Episode 421

Most of us don’t wake up wanting to be selfish, impatient, or unkind. So why is being good so difficult? In this conversation, I sit down once again with Corey to explore one of the oldest questions in philosophy, faith, and everyday life. Beginning with Rudyard Kipling’s timeless poem If—, we unpack what it really means to choose goodness when life becomes uncomfortable. We discuss why ego fights humility, why justice feels so personal, why suffering can either harden us or deepen us, and why character is built in the ordinary moments no one else sees. Along the way we explore marriage, wrestling, strength training, silence, comparison, purpose, shared suffering, and even Eminem’s Walk on Water as a reflection on identity after success. Goodness isn’t a feeling. It’s a practice. And perhaps the greatest victory isn’t over other people—but over ourselves.

MIT Longevity Expert: Do These 3 Things Now to Stay Young, Live Longer, & Keep Doing What You Love

What no one tells you about aging is that it starts long before you feel old.  In fact, the choices you’re making in this moment are shaping how strong, independent, connected, and fulfilled you’ll feel decades from now.  In this hopeful conversation, Mel sits down with MIT longevity expert Dr. Joseph Coughlin, founding director of the MIT AgeLab, for a wake-up call that will change how you plan the rest of your life.  The good news?   Dr. Coughlin says you’re probably going to live longer than you think. But longevity is not just about adding more years to your life. It is about deciding how you want those years to feel – and preparing now so they stay active, meaningful, fun, and fully yours.  Dr. Coughlin is sharing his research-backed framework for a happier, healthier future, one that will show you why you shouldn’t be afraid of getting older if you do the simple things within your control.    You’ll learn exactly what to do to avoid the biggest regrets of people in their 80s, 90s, and 100s, and live life on your terms.  And if someone you love is getting older, this conversation is essential.   Dr. Coughlin is also sharing practical guidance for caregivers and will walk you through the conversation every family needs to have about aging before it’s too late, and exactly what you need to know to help your aging parents. You’ll learn:   –The science-backed habits that predict how well you’ll age  –3 simple questions that will help you design a vibrant future  –The surprising number that may predict how long you’ll live  –The hidden forces that can quietly steal your strength and independence, and how to fight them  –How to talk to your parents about aging before a crisis hits  –What retirement will really look like, and it’s not what you think  –The 8,000-day framework that will change how you see the rest of your life  –Why getting older can be something to look forward to, not fear  You’ll also hear what happens when Mel tries on AGNES, MIT’s full-body aging suit, and sees the world and the people she loves in a whole new way.   But this isn’t a conversation about decline. It’s about preparation, possibility, and taking back control.  As Dr. Coughlin says, getting older isn’t something to dread. It is a gift of time, and what you do with that time starts now.  For more resources related to today’s episode, click here for the podcast episode page.  If you liked the episode, check out this one next: This One Study Will Change How You Think About Your Entire Life: The Cornell Legacy Project.  Connect with Mel:     Order Mel’s product, Pure Genius Protein Get Mel’s newsletter, packed with tools, coaching, and inspiration. • 517: Emotions Are Our Superpower… Here's Why

    517: Emotions Are Our Superpower… Here's Why

Today I'm talking about one of my favorite topics and one of the most important parts of becoming a healthy adult: learning how to feel your feelings. So many of us were never taught how to tune into what is happening inside of us. We learned to think, perform, push through, numb out, fix others, or disconnect from our feelings altogether. But when we do not know how to feel, we also lose connection with our intuition, empathy, self-trust, and the inner parts of us that need our attention. In this episode, I break down why feeling your feelings matters, how it helps us become whole, and why it is such an important part of healing codependency, connecting with the inner child, and becoming more emotionally intelligent. I also share practical ways to begin, including body scans, journaling, inner child work, and gently working with the parts of you that may feel blocked or resistant. Key Takeaways Feeling your feelings helps you become a more whole and connected human Many of us learned to numb, suppress, or avoid our feelings because we were never taught what to do with them Emotional intelligence is just as important as intellectual intelligence Feeling your feelings helps strengthen intuition and inner guidance Empathy grows when we are able to feel and understand our own internal experience Codependency begins to heal when we redirect our energy back to ourselves instead of constantly focusing on others Feelings only stay stuck when we attach stories, assumptions, or meaning to them Journaling can help move feelings out of the body and onto the page Inner child work is a powerful way to reconnect with your feelings Resistance to feeling is often a protective part that needs compassion, not judgment Resources from this Episode: Inner Child Meditation   MORE MICHELLE CHALFANT Website: https://www.michellechalfant.com Membership: The Adult Chair® Collective https://www.michellechalfant.com/collective  Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/themichellechalfant Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TheMichelleChalfant The Adult Chair® Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/theadultchair YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/Michellechalfant
