Interview with Micah from The Southern Spirit - OPDFoundHer Ep. 15

In this episode, we got to chat with Micah Griffin, the founder of The Southern Spirit. Micah's journey actually started with selling home decor from multiple small businesses. She had originally planned to open a store before the pandemic hit, so she switched gears and started selling her stuff online. One day, Micah's husband brought home a dehydrator, which led Micah to create the handcrafted Cocktail Infusions that they are known for today!
We met Micah at her first big trade show in Atlanta, where we purchased her Cocktail Infusions for our store, and enjoyed discussing all things business, motherhood, and faith. Expanding her business to wholesaling was a big deal for The Southern Spirit. Micah talks about how tough but exciting it was to make that change. Micah believes in having a good balance between work and everything else in life. She also talks about picking the best people to work with her, making sure they all bring something different to the table. The Southern Spirit has been growing a lot lately! Micah shares her tips for growing a business and shares a product that recently launched: Pineapple Sundown. Micah doesn't just sell to wholesalers—she's also providing training to help others know how to sell their products! Being a mom and running a business can be hard, but Micah tells us about her struggles and how she manages everything with strength and positivity. Micah also shares something really special: The Southern Spirit is going to start giving back to good causes, including D’s Trust the Light Foundation. Micah shares how she can relate to the cause and is excited to have it on their list of charities. As we wrap up, Micah's story reminds us that being an entrepreneur means facing challenges, seizing opportunities, and always staying true to yourself and God’s plan for your life. We are so grateful for the opportunity to interview her and can’t wait to see her at the next market! Why You Should Lead... or Get Out of the Way - Ep. 13

D shares anecdotes about experiences with big families and the associated looks/comments, while Heather discusses the dynamics of raising children with a significant age gap. Together, they explore whether big families contribute to the development of leadership skills. When we hear the word "leadership," who embodies leadership qualities and why? We delve into essential skills for effective leadership, such as the ability to adapt quickly, fearlessness in attempting new approaches, and meticulous attention to detail. Personal reflection is encouraged to recognize leadership traits beyond being perceived as "bossy." We discuss distinguishing between leadership traits and merely being authoritative, highlighting the crucial role of leadership in personal development and retention, applicable not only in business but also in friendships. We share personal development forms from the previous year and discuss the implementation of Personal TBs (Training Books), encouraging other team leads to adopt similar practices. Encouragement is given to shift from directive approaches to asking, "How can I help? What do you need from me?" fostering engagement and support. We reflect on self-assessment, encouraging leaders to consider what they have learned and the actions taken to support their team's personal growth. Book recommendations tailored to team members' interests and needs are shared. Leaders are urged to engage in self-reflection, considering areas for improvement and actively working on growth and development in leadership roles. Although no audience questions are addressed in this episode, viewers are reminded to submit questions for future episodes. We encourage watching the podcast on YouTube, liking, and sharing, while also engaging with the community and staying connected.
