    238 – The BiSHH is Back

    Bisexual, pansexual, fluid, queer, questioning, heteroflexible, homoflexible, multi-gender attracted — however people describe it, bi+ people have always been here. But when it comes to sexual health and HIV research, bi+ people have too often been folded into other groups, partially seen, or missed altogether. This week on Hide and Seek, Jon and Jonas are joined by Steve Spencer from NAPWHA and Bella Bushby from the Kirby Institute to talk about the Bi+ Sexual Health and HIV Study — or BiSHH — the first national survey of sex, health and relationships designed specifically for bi+ people in Australia. Steve first joined us back in 2023 when BiSHH was still being shaped. Now, the study has been completed, the data has landed, and the findings are big. More than 2,000 bi+ people across Australia shared their experiences of sex, relationships, healthcare, HIV, PrEP, U=U, stigma, sexual violence, community connection and what it means to feel properly seen in research. Bella takes us through why the study was needed, how community shaped the survey from the ground up, and what the findings reveal about the diversity of bi+ lives. Steve brings the community advocate lens, talking about bi+ erasure, HIV stigma, the need for services to stop assuming everyone fits neatly into gay or straight boxes, and why bi+ people need to be involved in designing the systems that are supposed to support them. Along the way, we talk about why “same-sex attracted” data is not enough, why asking the right questions matters, how stigma can compound across sexuality, gender, HIV status, disability, drug use, sex work and other experiences, and what sexual health services, HIV organisations, LGBTQIA+ spaces, policymakers and funders need to do next.     236 – Boots, Suits and Tim’s Cutes

    What makes a queer male pin-up more than just a sexy photograph? In this episode, Jon and Joenas are joined by photographer and Boots and Suits creator Evan, of @E.F.P.Photography, along with Hide and Seek alum, Tim Little, who recently stepped in front of Evan’s camera for a featured spread.   Together, they explore the visual language of queer male desire: boots, suits, harnesses, posture, gaze, body language and the coded imagery queer communities have used for generations. The conversation looks at how pin-up photography can communicate fantasy, masculinity, confidence, humour and belonging in ways that a standard fashion shoot or thirst trap may not. Evan shares the origins of Boots and Suits, the influences behind its distinctive Melbourne-made style, and why he chose to create a physical magazine in an increasingly digital world. He reflects on the lasting erotic power of boots, uniforms, tailoring and workwear, and on the importance of queer communities producing and preserving their own images. Tim takes listeners deep into his shoot, from his initial reaction and pre-shoot prep to the moment he began to relax into the experience. He discusses the vulnerability of being photographed, the emotional impact of seeing the finished images, and what it felt like to recognise himself as sexy, powerful and worthy of being looked at. The conversation ultimately asks what it means to be seen rather than merely ogled, how erotic photography can celebrate a person without reducing them, and why it can be so powerful to see ordinary, local queer people presented as desirable. It is a conversation about pin-ups, print, coded desire, body confidence and the queer power of stepping into the frame.     235 – Lycra Lovin

    Leather and rubber might dominate the conversation around fetish clothing, but for some people, nothing compares to the smooth, tight and unmistakable appeal of lycra. In this episode, Craig speaks with Matt and Ross about lycra fetish, what first drew them to the fabric, and when an interest in sportswear became something more personal and erotic. They explore the appeal of lycra’s look, feel, fit and symbolism, and unpack why clothing fetishes are often misunderstood or dismissed.     Leather and kink have always been part of queer culture, but they are often pushed to the edges of mainstream Pride narratives or treated as something queer communities should hide. For this Radiothon episode, Jon, Joenas and Craig are joined by Johnny from Melbourne Leather and Liam Clark, Mr Australian Leather 2025 and the first Melbourne Rubberman, to explore why leather communities need queer media platforms—and why independent queer media needs community support. Johnny takes us inside the work of building leather community locally, from welcoming newcomers and creating events to education, mentoring, fundraising and maintaining safer community norms. The conversation looks beyond the jackets, harnesses and boots to the values of service, respect, care, tradition and chosen family that hold leather communities together. Liam reflects on representing Australia at International Mr Leather, returning to titleholding after his time as Melbourne Rubberman, and what it means to carry a community title as a form of service, visibility and advocacy.     What can rope, leather and consensual kink teach us about trust, vulnerability and connection? In this episode, Craig speaks with Brendan Josey, Mr Queensland Leather 2023 and an experienced practitioner, performer and educator within Australia’s leather, BDSM and shibari communities. Brendan reflects on his journey into kink, the roles he occupies within a scene, and how his understanding of BDSM has evolved through years of practice and community involvement. The conversation explores shibari as a form of intimacy, artistic expression, performance and embodied communication. Brendan discusses how rope skills are learned, what makes a successful scene, and how riggers and rope partners balance aesthetics, connection and physical safety. Craig and Brendan also unpack the values that underpin ethical BDSM, including negotiation, informed consent, risk awareness, changing boundaries, safewords and aftercare.     232 – Work Hard For The Money

    Sex work is often reduced to a single stereotype, but the reality is far broader. It can include full-service work, escorting, erotic massage, stripping, professional domination, camming, phone sex, pornography, online content creation and many other forms of sexual or erotic labour. In this episode, Jon speaks with Odus Moore to challenge some of the most persistent myths about sex work and explore what the job actually involves. They discuss the communication, screening, negotiation, marketing, administration, emotional labour, safety planning and business management that often happen before and after any paid booking, performance or session. Odus also reflects on how stigma affects sex workers far beyond personal judgement, shaping experiences of healthcare, housing, banking, policing, relationships, online platforms and community spaces. The conversation examines why sex workers are so often portrayed as either helpless victims or endlessly empowered, why neither stereotype reflects the diversity of workers’ lives, and why consent and boundaries remain just as important in sex work as anywhere else.
