    Help With Facing Flashbacks

    I am personally familiar with flashbacks, and until I came to Christ, I did not know how to handle the torment these experiences would bring. The flashbacks from my childhood were related to the passing of my Dad when I was 10. In my teen years, I survived an attempted assault by a person I should have been able to trust. Both of those events happened before I was born again. Learning how God uses His Word to help us rescued me from years of torment. I finally found the help I needed. God’s Word is a bottomless well of vital help, guidance, instruction, comfort, and correction. When it comes to flashbacks, we need all these things. This episode will give you a starter list of verses to turn to for help when you are wrestling with flashbacks of any kind.     Soundbite: Are You Angry With Someone?

    Welcome to Soundbites: Topics that are scripturally sound in bite-sized episodes. This week's topic: Anger. Are you angry with someone right now? The strong emotions and reactions that come with anger can get us into trouble. Being angry is not a sin by itself, but the way we express that anger can easily become sinful and harmful.     Teachback Tuesday-When We Don't Want to Forgive

    Welcome to Teachback Tuesday, where we replay the most popular episodes from previous seasons. This week's episode, "When We Don't Want to Forgive," is meant to help anyone struggling with the tough task of forgiveness. Sometimes we feel that people simply do not deserve to be forgiven. We are not the first ones to feel this way. Consider this passage from Matthew 18:21-22: "Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven." I love the realness of Peter. Obviously, someone had done him wrong enough times that Peter was starting to keep track! But we can't have it both ways. We can't expect forgiveness when we don't want to grant it. If you are withholding forgiveness from anyone, this episode provides four things that are side effects of failing to grant forgiveness, and how we can avoid the consequences of choosing the wrong course.     None of Us Should Throw Stones

    It’s easy to point out the flaws and faults of others. What’s harder is to see our own imperfections. The Bible has an example of this in the account of the scribes and Pharisees in John chapter 8. They brought a woman to Jesus with an accusation of adultery, and Jesus exposed their hypocrisy in a single sentence: "So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her." (John 8:7) Hypocrisy is stone throwing while not wanting any stones thrown back at us. It’s fault finding while not wanting anyone to see anything wrong with our behaviors. It is calling someone intolerant while practicing intolerance. None of us is perfectly righteous, so we all need to put the stones down. Let’s examine this passage to see how Jesus shut down the hypocrisy, and how we can avoid becoming self-righteous hypocrites in our own view of people.
