    Hosanna Tabor v. EEOC

    Welcome to season 5 of Queer PoliFaith! In today's episode, we are doing a few things. First, I talk about the first part of the season including the schedule, the theme, and other odds and ends. Then, I get to the meat of the episode. Today, we are going to talk about the Supreme Court case Hosanna Tabor v. EEOC. It's a case about churches, disability, and who is a minister. It is a difficult case because there are aspects that are understandable and aspects that are not. I delve into each area. In two weeks, we will have part one of two parts about Mae's doctoral dissertation. I talk about it a little more in the episode.     On B******t

    Welcome to the season finale of Queer PoliFaith! Today's episode is a conversation I had with Billie and Paul Hoard about b******t. It is part 2 of our conversation about their book Eucontamination: Disgust Theology and the Christian Life from August 28th. It is a really fun conversation that is quite important. The word "b******t" is (unsurprisingly) used quite a bit. It is being used in a academic way, but if the word offends you, you may want to just skip this conversation. I hope you listen because it is quite informative and important to what is going on around us now. We'll be back in February with new episodes. I am planning on focusing more on the "faith" and "queer" aspects of the podcast since we've focused so heavily on the "poli" part for a while now. Look for a list of episodes in January.     Medina v. Planned Parenthood

    Welcome to today's episode of Queer PoliFaith! In this penultimate episode of season 4, we'll be talking about the case Medina v. Planned Parenthood in which the Supreme Court decided to cut off one avenue people have of protecting their rights and allowed states to cut Planned Parenthood off from Medicaid funding. Our other case is McLaughlin Chiropractic Associates v. McKesson Corp where SCOTUS continued its assault on the administrative state by stating that, in certain circumstances, the courts do not have to follow an agency's interpretation of the law. Our next episode will be in 3 weeks on December 11th and will be my interview with Billie and Paul Hoard about b******t. After that, we'll be on break until February 2026.     Kennedy v. Braidwood

    Welcome to today's episode of Queer PoliFaith. Today we are talking about the case Kennedy v. Braidwood. We will also be looking at Gutierrez v. Saenz and Hewitt v. US. Kennedy v. Braidwood is another attack on the ACA, this time via the preventative services mandate. I don't spend as much time on the case itself as I normally do because the issues at play are ones we've seen before. Instead, I spend time analyzing the impact that getting rid of this mandate would have via my own personal experiences. Our next episode will be on November 20 and will be about the case Medina v. Planned Parenthood. After that, the last episode of the season will come out on December 11th and will be my interview with Billie and Paul about bulllshit.     FDA v. RJ Reynolds and Free Speech Coalition v. Paxton

    Welcome to today's episode fo Queer PoliFaith! Today, we are talking about 2 different cases: FDA v. RJ Reynolds and Free Speech Coalition v. Paxton. Both are important enough that I decided that they both deserved to be talked about. We take a brief look at Diamond Alternative Energy v. EPA. FDA v. RJ Reynolds is a case about whether or not retailers who sell tobacco products can take part in a lawsuit denying a company the ability to manufacture a product (in this case e-cigarettes). At its base, this case truly is about the conservatives on the Supreme Court taking apart the administrative state, a mission they have been on for decades. Free Speech Coalition v. Paxton has to do with age verification on websites that deal primarily in pornographic images. At its base, this case is dealing with the puritanical nature of the US and our obsession with stigmatizing sex and nudity. My comments on this may be controversial.     Glossip v. Oklahoma

    Welcome to today's episode of Queer PoliFaith. Today, we will be talking about the case Glossip v. Oklahoma, a case involving capital punishment that has been bouncing around in the courts for a couple of decades. I start the episode by talking about the case Chiles v. Salazar, a case about so-called "conversion therapy", which is really a form of torture. The other cases we talk about are Bouarfa v. Mayorkas and City and County of San Francisco v.     US v. Skrmetti

    Welcome to today's episode of Queer PoliFaith! Today, we are talking about the case US v. Skrmetti, in which the Supreme Court decided that states are allowed to outlaw or restrict gender affirming care for transgender children. The decision rested on sophistry, which is something we spend a lot of time going over. The other cases are Riley v. Bondi (an immigration case) and Stanley v. Sanford (a disability rights case that gets really complicated). I don't spend as much time on either of these as usual because both cases are more complex than most of the other cases we look at briefly.     Catholic Charities v. Wisconsin

    Welcome to today's episode of Queer PoliFaith. Today, we are talking about the case Catholic Charities Bureau, Inc., et al. v. Wisconsin Labor and Industry Review Commission et al. This was a unanimous decision with 2 concurrences about religious non-profits and unemployment insurance. Partway through the episode, I go on an 8-9 minute rant about the unemployment decision and the US's paltry social safety net. Our next episode will be on September 25 and will be about US v.
