This podcast is intentionally creepy, but it’s not overwrought or clumsily done. The guy who does this podcast (Richard Maclean...Smith) has an utter command of vocal tone, narrative structure, pacing, prose. Not gonna lie: I listen to this at night and have fallen asleep to a lot of these podcasts. But let me state what I have also done: I’ve listened to every episode of this pod in about 2-3 months. I have listened to several episodes multiple times often because I wake up listening to something interesting and want to continue at the beginning, and sometimes because I remember falling asleep during an episode or series of episodes, the outcome of I want to know. Overall, if you want to get into a creepy podcast that splits its time between weird and enigmatic deaths, stories that either feature or reference UFOs, and, yeah, weird, enigmatic and occasionally grisly deaths, then tarry no further. The guy who does these pods (Richard Maclean…Smith) spends 0-1% of the podcast offering solutions for unresolved stories, providing a full account of his views on aliens, UFOs, and the likelihood of whether aliens are the cause of certain incidents or have been visiting Earth. In other words, with regard to offering a viable explanation or solution for the unresolved aspect of these stories, he occasionally offers somw brief explanations. More frequently he says nothing about it at all. For me, this is preferable! It’s actually really important to me being able to really enjoy a podcast like this. To give a somewhat more concrete example, if I’m listening to a UFO story, I don’t want to hear the narrator opining on UFOs: “have they come here? what do they want?” If the narrator seems very willing to attribute a veracity to UFO encounters, I’m out. Aliens in UFOs have 97% not been visiting the Earth. But there’s that 3% possibility, and that’s the fun zone. Tell me the creepy facts and allow me to decide or not decide about anything relating to the directly and indirectly related opining that often accompanies such stories.
