    "My father, behold, the enemy's ships came here. My cities were burned, and they did evil things in my country. Does not my father know that all my troops and chariots are in the land of Hatti, and all my ships are in the land of Lukka? The country is abandoned to itself. May my father know it: the seven ships of the enemy that came here inflicted much damage upon us." Around the year 1185 BCE, Ammurapi, the last king of the ancient city Ugarit, urged the king of nearby Alashiya to send help. His city, which had stood for thousands of years, was one of the great commercial capitals of the eastern Mediterranean. But help would never arrive. Ugarit fell and was never rebuilt. And it was not alone. Up and down the coastline, from Greece to Anatolia to the Levant, an entire interconnected world of Bronze Age superpowers essentially stopped existing within the span of a few decades. Cities that had thrived for centuries were reduced to ash. Writing systems disappeared so completely that entire regions went functionally illiterate for centuries. And at the center of almost every ancient account of what happened, you find the same phrase showing up in Egyptian temple walls and Syrian palace archives alike, describing a coalition of raiders.     Alan Wood

    "Why do that to such a gentle man? If they had wanted his money, he would have given it to them." On the evening of 21 October 2009, 50-year-old Alan Wood dropped by his local pub, the Willoughby Arms, in the nearby town of Little Bytham. He had a pint and a snack while he read the newspaper, and then headed home to his bungalow in nearby Lound at approximately 6:30 PM. It was a typical night for him and nothing seemed to be out of the ordinary. For the next three days, no one heard from him. He didn't show up for his scheduled shifts at a Sainsbury's supermarket. When called, he didn't answer. It wasn't until that weekend - the 24th of October - that a friend and colleague from Sainsbury's went to go check on Alan. When they arrived, they found both the front and back doors of Alan's home were wide open...     Adrian Washington

    "We do have him making some purchases at a cleaners. Also, we have some activity on some local roadways, and then he vanishes." On Saturday, 26 May 2012, 36-year-old Adrian Washington set out to take care of some things. First, he stopped by Planet Fitness on the north side of Austin, Texas, just after nine in the morning. Then, he dropped by Fine Dry Cleaners, where he was also a regular. After that, he made contact with some people by phone, including his sister, LaTeasha. But the normally-social Adrian was surprisingly curt and formal, and he cut their conversation short after just a moment. Almost immediately thereafter, Adrian vanished, leaving behind his family, friends, wife, and children. Surveillance cameras would capture Adrian's vehicle traveling south, toward San Antonio, where Adrian's cell phone was found discarded on a sidewalk...     Stephanie Sempell

    "I always thought she would walk through the door." In late December 1976, a camper was spending time down in the Florida Keys. He was camping in an area known as the rock pit alongside US Route 1 on Grassy Key, a limestone quarry site used by campers and party-goers alike. While there, though, he was approached by a man he later described as a "hippie-type," who offered to show him a decomposing human body for a quarter. The camper declined and called the Monroe County Sheriff's Office. On December 30th, Detective Richard Roth was dispatched to investigate. Following the camper's directions, he made his way into the heavily wooded area near the rock pit. There, he found bones...     Jeremiah Foco

    "He got up, got ready for work and fell off the planet." On the afternoon of Tuesday, 21 July 2015, 34-year-old Jeremiah Foco was working from home. His laptop's hard drive had crashed, and he told his manager that he would be coming into their Bellevue, Washington office the following day to get it repaired. It was a routine plan. Nothing about the conversation raised any red flags. That night, surveillance camera footage from Jeremiah's apartment complex showed him pulling his car into the building's parking garage at 12:07 AM. He parked his car, and presumably went inside to his apartment. Security footage never showed him leaving the complex, but he was inexplicably missing the following day...     The Epstein Scandal (Postscript #2: Jane Doe 4)

    "Congress and the public deserve a clear answer about whether the Epstein Estate paid a settlement to an accuser who made serious allegations against Donald Trump, and who was interviewed four times by the FBI." On 24 February 2026, NPR reporter Stephen Fowler published an investigative report comparing the public database of Epstein files released by the DOJ on January 30th with the Ghislaine Maxwell trial evidence index (handed to her defense attorneys in 2021 as part of standard discovery procedures). The two documents do not match. According to the evidence index, the FBI conducted four interviews with a woman in 2019. These interviews produced four sets of written summaries, known as 302 reports, which should have all been included in the January 30th document release. Only one was included, in which she claimed she'd been assaulted by Jeffrey Epstein when she was just 13 years old. The other three were the ones in which this woman - known only as Jane Doe 4 - made credible accusations against the sitting President of the United States...     The Epstein Scandal (Postscript #1: Zorro Ranch)

    "Zorro Ranch was probably the most eerie place, just giant and quiet and literally in the middle of nowhere. Miles and miles of just mountains and dirt." On the morning of 8 March 2026, a group of people gathered at a gate on a dirt road in the New Mexico desert, about 30 miles south of Santa Fe, in a place called Stanley. The gate leads to an extravagant property that sits on roughly 7600 acres of high desert scrubland. The nearest town is twenty miles away. If you screamed out here, no one would hear it. The property used to be called Zorro Ranch. It belongs to a Texas family now, who bought it in 2023 and renamed it San Rafael Ranch. Before that family attempted to rehabilitate the ranch into a Christian retreat, however, it belonged to Jeffrey Epstein... This is a continuation of a series we started last year.
