Damn You Hollywood: By Any Means (2026)

Tonight on Damn You Hollywood, we are reviewing By Any Means. Directed by Elegance Bratton and starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Mark Wahlberg, Giancarlo Esposito, Nicole Beharie, Josh Lucas, and David Strathairn, the film takes us to 1966 Mississippi, where a Black FBI agent is assigned to investigate the murder of civil-rights leader Vernon Dahmer. When conventional methods fail, the Bureau turns to Gregory Scarpa, a real-life Mafia killer and FBI informant, creating an uneasy partnership built around one very uncomfortable question: what happens when the law decides the law is no longer enough? We’ll discuss the performances, the historical liberties, the film’s treatment of institutional failure, racial violence, vigilantism, and whether a righteous goal can excuse morally compromised methods. Join us as we break down By Any Means and decide whether this historical crime thriller earns its title. Triple Feature: The Flamingo Kid/Beaches/Pretty Woman

Tonight on Triple Feature we are doing a director focus on Gary Marshall by reviewing 3 of his seminal works, The Flamingo Kid, Beaches and Pretty Woman. Marshall came to film after creating and producing television institutions including Happy Days, Laverne & Shirley and Mork & Mindy, bringing his populist approach to character and comedy to Hollywood. The Flamingo Kid, starring Matt Dillon, spent more than a decade in development before becoming the first film ever assigned the newly created PG-13 rating, although Red Dawn reached theaters first. Beaches paired Bette Midler and Barbara Hershey for a decades-spanning female friendship drama whose legacy became inseparable from Midler's Grammy-winning "Wind Beneath My Wings." Two years later, Marshall directed Pretty Woman, transforming a considerably darker screenplay into a modern Cinderella story that made Julia Roberts a superstar and became one of the defining romantic comedies of its era. Tonight we examine the development, production and cultural legacy of all three films and the career of the filmmaker who connected them. Damn You Hollywood: Coyote vs. Acme (2026)

Tonight on Damn You  Hollywood we are reviewing, Coyote vs Acme. After years of delays, controversy, and a near-permanent shelving by Warner Bros. Discovery, the long-awaited Looney Tunes feature has finally made it to audiences. Directed by Dave Green and starring Will Forte, John Cena, Lana Condor, and the iconic cast of Looney Tunes characters, the film follows Wile E. Coyote as he finally decides to take legal action against the company responsible for decades of defective rockets, explosives, traps, and assorted catastrophic failures. What begins as a ridiculous courtroom premise quickly expands into a surprisingly affectionate celebration of Looney Tunes history, mixing live-action comedy, animation, corporate satire, and classic cartoon chaos. We’ll discuss whether the movie was worth saving, how well it understands Wile E. Coyote, why John Cena makes such an effective corporate villain, and whether Warner Bros. nearly buried one of its better modern attempts to keep these characters alive. Sessions vol 2: From the Corner to the Deuce

Tonight is our most ambitious project to date as we compress the entirety of a years worth of podcasts we called, "From the Corner to the Deuce" into one long song inspired by Meatloaf's Paradise by the Dashboard Light. Over the past year, we worked our way through David Simon’s television career, from Homicide: Life on the Street and The Corner through The Wire, Generation Kill, Treme, Show Me a Hero, The Deuce, The Plot Against America and We Own This City. Along the way, the same questions kept resurfacing: What happens when people enter institutions believing they can change them? What happens when those institutions reward survival over purpose? And how long can idealism survive the machinery? Tonight, all of those conversations become one story. Cops, addicts, soldiers, dockworkers, politicians, musicians and hustlers collide in a rock opera about people trying to save their cities, their communities and themselves. This is Baltimore. The Gods will not save you. This is From the Corner to the Deuce. Damn You Hollywood: Mutiny (2026)

Tonight on Damn You Hollywood we are reviewing Mutiny! Directed by Jean-François Richet and written by Lindsay Michel and J. P. Davis, the 2026 action thriller stars Jason Statham, Annabelle Wallis and Adrian Lester. Statham plays the head of security for a billionaire who finds himself framed for murder and uncovering a conspiracy while stowing away aboard a cargo ship. Produced by Statham’s Punch Palace Productions and MadRiver Pictures, *Mutiny* reunites Statham with the kind of lean, hard-edged action vehicle that has become his specialty, while Richet returns to the genre after directing *Plane*. Lionsgate acquired North American distribution before the 2024 Cannes Film Market, with production taking place in the United Kingdom and Malta. The film finally hit theaters August 21 after moving from a January release—and after Amazon accidentally leaked the entire movie on Prime Video just two days before opening. Does *Mutiny* keep the Statham action machine running, or has the formula finally sprung a leak? On Trial: Bring It On (2000)

Tonight we put Bring It On starring Kirsten Dunst, ON TRIAL! Released in 2000, *Bring It On* marked the theatrical directing debut of Peyton Reed from a script by Jessica Bendinger. Dunst stars alongside Eliza Dushku, Jesse Bradford and Gabrielle Union in the story of rival high-school cheerleading teams preparing to battle for a national championship. Originally pitched as *Cheer Fever*—“*Clueless* meets *Strictly Ballroom*” at a cheerleading competition—the film combined Bendinger’s fascination with ESPN cheer competitions and her background covering hip-hop for *Spin*. That experience inspired the movie’s central conflict: what if America’s championship cheerleading squad had built its success by stealing routines from another team? After being rejected 28 times, the project finally landed at Beacon Pictures. The result opened at number one, held the spot for two weeks, grossed roughly $90 million worldwide and became a cult classic that spawned six direct-to-video sequels. But 26 years later, does *Bring It On* still bring it—or should this cheerleading classic finally be benched? Tonight, Kat and Mark argue the case before the Judge! Damn You Hollywood: The End of Oak Street (2026)

Tonight on Damn You Hollywood we are reviewing The End of Oak Street. Written and directed by David Robert Mitchell, the film stars Anne Hathaway, Ewan McGregor, Maisy Stella and Christian Convery as a suburban family whose quiet 1982 neighborhood is suddenly transported millions of years into the past and dropped into the age of dinosaurs. Originally developed under the title Flowervale Street, the project began taking shape at Warner Bros. in 2023 with J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot producing and Hathaway attached to star. McGregor, Stella and Convery joined the following year, with principal photography taking place in London and Atlanta. Several Atlanta neighborhoods were chosen for their detached homes, wide lawns and mature trees, recreating the look of early-1980s American suburbia before visual-effects powerhouse Industrial Light & Magic transformed that familiar setting into a prehistoric nightmare. Released August 14, 2026, the $80–92 million survival adventure has earned positive reviews while opening to $47 million worldwide. So does Mitchell successfully turn suburban nostalgia into dinosaur-fueled terror, or should Oak Street have stayed extinct? Metal Hammer of Doom: Genghis Tron - Signal Fire

Tonight on the Metal Hammer of Doom we are reviewing Signal Fire by Genghis Tron. After disappearing for more than a decade and returning in 2021 with the atmospheric, psychedelic Dream Weapon, Genghis Tron have now found a way to reconnect with the violence of their early material without simply repeating it. Signal Fire brings back the screaming, blast beats and abrasive guitars, but combines them with synth-pop, electronic textures, hypnotic repetition and the expanded rhythm section that transformed the band’s sound. We’ll discuss how the album developed, the addition of bassist Kenny Szymanski, the decision to work with producer Seth Manchester, and how the record reflects a world of information overload, warfare and increasingly unstable ideas of reality. We’ll also ask whether this synthesis of old and new Genghis Tron actually works, how Signal Fire compares with Board Up the House and Dream Weapon, and whether the metal crowd finally gets the Genghis Tron album it wanted.
