Athena, an AI-native legal service for commercial real estate investors, raised a $2.5 million pre-seed round led by a16z Speedrun on 3 November 2026. It has signed 22 clients in the two months since launch, charging fixed fees that typically run 30% to 50% below clients' recent deals. Its AI agents review deal documents and draft redlines while attorneys at its affiliated firm, Athena Circle, make the legal decisions and approve all work. In its first six weeks Athena cut attorney review time by more than 70% and turned around one purchase agreement in under 48 hours. Co-founders Cem Ucan and Kieran John Keenan came from Legora, which is valued at $8.8 billion, while founding engineer José Braz built Legora's legal research agent. About $2.5 trillion of US commercial mortgages fall due between 2025 and 2027, which Athena's founders expect to drive a new wave of deals.
