Parental Settings

We're Ryan and Lauren, mid-30s Texas parents of a 1-year-old girl and a 5-year-old boy. We're not full of magical advice—sorry. But we're sharing the daily minutiae of parenting, everything from getting kids to sleep to flying with kids. Sometimes we're full of great ideas, other times we just need a place to vent! (For our kids' privacy, we'll just be referring to them on the podcast as "the boy" and "the girl".)

    The Season 2 premier features a solo dad episode! The boy is now 6 and in first grade. The girl is now 2 and mimicking big bro. It's a whole new world as parents navigate the pandemic and the craziness of 2020. Ryan takes over the mic with Lauren on the road for work, and talks everything from early voting to his kids' schooling to COVID-19 to his two trips to COVID hotspot South Dakota to his ridiculously bad luck with sports.     Lauren and Ryan walk through a typical day at their house in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic. With both still working full-time from home, parenting a 5-year-old, 1-year-old, and escape artist beagle dog has become a major challenge. Also, Ryan gives a few of his famous Sesame Street impressions, while Lauren talks sourdough starters.

    Things We Recommend While Sheltering in Place

    Stuck at home, Ryan and Lauren run through the TV shows, books, apps, games, podcasts and hobbies they have been enjoying to pass the time. While Ryan finished his first book in years (Dick Bremer's "Game Used"), Lauren has found a new game on her phone to pass some time. The two each give their unfiltered opinions on how the pandemic is being handled and what's to come.
