When Honoring Chris Brown Becomes a Political Crisis

Chris Brown was honored with a congressional record at a concert in Dallas by Rep Jasmine Crockett and Texas State Rep Venton Jones. It has become a debacle after outraged victims of domestic abuse spoke out against Mr. Brown, who infamously beat Rihanna and other romantic  partners. Rep Jones has apologized while Crockett is standing on business–this is an excellent moment to educate about OPTICS (and talk about who deserves forgiveness).     ProPublica has reported that Donald Trump Jr.’s wedding was secretly bankrolled by a Russian oligarch close to president Putin. Don Jr. and his new wife Bettina admitted to everything, and said they don’t understand why it’s a big deal...    Join hosts Angela Rye and Bakari Sellers for episode 149 of Native Land Pod. We are 47 days away from the midterm elections. Welcome home y’all!  FYSA HEADLINES   The Supreme Court has blocked Trump’s plan to control mail-in voting through the US Postal Service.    Elon Musk’s America PAC sets up a fake voter registration website to harvest data.    Senator Mitch McConnell returns to the Senate looking like a ghost of his former self.    Employees and CEOs from the big AI companies are saying that we need to pause AI development but Trump says we need to move full speed ahead.  LINKS AND RESOURCES   ProPublica Report on Don Jr.’s Wedding: https://www.propublica.org/article/donald-trump-jr-wedding-bankrolled-russian-oligarch-umar-kremlev-putin?utm_campaign=propublica-sprout&utm_content=1789434005&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter   SUBMIT A QUESTION   Have a question for our hosts? Millions Removed From the Voter Rolls. Are You Still Registered? | Angela Rye SoloPod

Millions of voter registrations have been removed from the rolls in Florida and South Carolina since 2022. In Florida, more than 2.3 million registrations were removed between 2022 and July 2026. In South Carolina, nearly 1.2 million registrations were removed between 2022 and 2025.   We’ll be joined by Chanae Jackson, Organizing Director for Florida For All, to discuss voter-roll removals in Florida and South Carolina, and what voters should know about maintaining their registration.   Christina Cue from the ACLU also joins us to discuss the voter-roll purges in South Carolina.   And we’ll be joined by Congressman Bennie Thompson, Chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus Institute, to discuss the CBC Institute’s Go Vote Initiative and its efforts to increase voter engagement and participation.
