    Intuition: The Hidden Wisdom | Dr. Katrina Garvey

Together they discuss: definition of intuition, its role in clinical practice and daily life, personal anecdotes of intuitive hits, the importance of recognizing emotional responses as part of intuitive process, intuition in medical education, intuition in aging , and much more.  Dr. Katrina Garvey is a psychiatrist with a diverse career spanning inpatient, academic, correctional, and coaching settings. A graduate of the Medical College of Wisconsin, she completed her psychiatry residency at UT Southwestern in Dallas before beginning her career in a large private hospital. She later joined the University of Colorado at Anschutz, and today she serves as the psychiatrist for the Colorado Department of Corrections’ residential treatment facility, where she specializes in diagnostic evaluations of complex psychiatric cases, including psychopathy and personality disorders. Dr. Garvey is also passionate about medical education, teaching medical students through the CU Colorado Springs campus, and a two-time recipient of the university’s teaching award. Beyond her clinical and academic work, she is the founder of The Signature Self coaching practice, with a focus on empowering parents to raise children without fear. She lives in Colorado Springs with her husband and three children, and in her free time she enjoys running, gardening, yoga, traveling, reading, and puzzling. She leads Integrative Medicine Education at Southern Illinois University Psychiatry Program, developed and streamlined national integrative psychiatry curricula for residency and fellowship programs, and has driven large-scale initiatives addressing population-wide trauma, including systemic reforms and pilot programs, from government levels to grassroots communities worldwide.". Born into a lineage steeped in Vedanta, Dr. Taneja has been immersed in spiritual practice since infancy—guided by a guru since her birth, and formally entering the gurukul system as a young child. Growing up in ashram life, she worked on cultivating an innate understanding of prana (life force), knowledge of the self and the transformative power of meditation. Complementing this foundation, she apprenticed with indigenous medicine men and women across North America, mastering diverse energy-healing modalities—from Theta healing, Reiki and chakra balancing to shamanic journeying. By weaving these time-honored practices into evidence-based energy psychology and trauma-informed psychiatry, Dr. Taneja offers an integrative framework that honors both scientific rigor and spiritual wisdom.
