Running From God | 104 Jarrad Grooms

Sometimes, doing the wrong thing feels good. Jarrad Grooms lived, and almost died, by this principle. Here's what to expect today on Wow God Stories. Jarrad Grooms' dad died in a motorcycle accident when Jarrad was only 10. After promising he would never use drugs or alcohol, Jarrad took hydrocodone on the first day of freshman year it changed everything. Within months, addiction had taken over. He was using pills, meth, and cocaine, selling drugs at school, and driving a wedge between himself and his mom. After high school, the addiction intensified. He stole from family, was arrested at 18, and entered Teen Challenge. While at Teen Challenge, Jarrad received lifechanging money from a lawsuit. He left treatment with only weeks remaining, bought a BMW, and ran from probation. The money fed a deeper addiction to heroin, meth, and Xanax. After more arrests and violations, Jarrad was sentenced to four years in Texas prison. In prison, God showed favor on Jarrad's life. Jarrad heard God say, "It's not your time" during a parole opportunity, but he received peace and joy rather than freedom. After parole, Jarrad came home and started at the bottom in the family business. His stepdad Steve believed in him, while the rest of his family was still scared to hope. After witnessing a close friend's suicide, Jarrad spiraled toward despair. A church sign saying "God loves you," a suicide hotline worker, and the song "I Surrender" guided him to surrender. Today, Jarrad Grooms helps lead Full Armor Ministries with Pastor Antonio Graves.
