Dream Big, Start Small: Lessons from World Record Miler Jim Ryun

Jim Ryun couldn't make his junior high basketball team, track team, or even his church baseball team. Two years later, he was the first high schooler to run a sub-four-minute mile. He'd go on to run a world record mile in 3:51, and compete in three Olympics. Now 79, he shares with us some of the best stories and wisdom: the time he ran a workout of four sets of 10x400 (doesn't recommend it), how he trained his mental discipline, how he handled the spotlight and media criticism, the best lessons he took from legendary coach Bob Timmons, why everyone needs "balcony people," and what he learned from being unfairly disqualified from the 1972 Olympics. It's a masterclass in excellence—actually. - Get a free LMNT drink mix pack with any purchase: drinkLMNT.com/Clay - To learn more about Jim Ryun's running camps, visit ryunrunning.com - Subscribe to The Growth Equation newsletter - Join The Growth Equation Academy - If you are enjoying "excellence, actually," do us a huge favor: text your favorite episode to three people so they can enjoy it, too. If You’re Feeling Uncertain & Stressed, You Need to Hear This

Life is hard. Stress is inevitable – whether it’s from things in your daily life or coming from the world around you.  But even when things feel overwhelming, there’s always something you can do.  In this conversation, Dr. Tara Narula, a board-certified cardiologist and stress expert, reveals the research-backed tools that will help you dial down your stress, train your nervous system to work for you, and feel calmer, stronger, and more in control – even when the world around you feels overwhelming.  This conversation will change the way you think about resilience. It’s not about pretending everything is fine, or “bouncing back” like nothing happened.  It’s about learning how to adapt to change, turn off stress, calm the worried voice inside, and access the inner strength that’s waiting for you to find it.  Dr. Narula explains why you can handle the challenges you’re up against – and how small, simple shifts can help you stop overthinking, rewire your mind, and find moments of hope, joy, meaning, and purpose when you need them most.  In this episode, you’ll learn:  -Dr. Narula’s 8-part resilience blueprint for handling life when it gets hard  -How to turn off stress before it takes over your body  -Why resilience is a skill you can build like a muscle  -How to protect yourself from caregiver burnout  -How to find hope when everything feels uncertain  If life feels heavy right now, this conversation will give you the tools, clarity, and steady reminder you need:   You are stronger than you think, and you can handle whatever comes next.  For more resources related to today’s episode, click here for the podcast episode page.    If you liked the episode, check out this one next: Overloaded, Exhausted, & Ready for a Reset: 3 Doctors Give Their Best Advice Connect with Mel:     Order Mel’s new product, Pure Genius Protein Get Mel’s newsletter, packed with tools, coaching, and inspiration. 6 Ways to Use My “Let Them” Theory to Improve Any Relationship

Wouldn’t it be nice if there was a way to not get so annoyed or frustrated with the people that you love? There is.  It’s called the “Let Them” theory. Mel discovered it while arguing with her son about a taco stand, and she hasn’t stopped using it since. She first explained the “Let Them” theory in a 60-second reel on Instagram. 63 million views later. The verdict is in. Everyone loves the “let them” theory. Today, Mel is in the studio, taking your calls live and teaching you 6 ways to improve any relationship with the “Let Them” theory. In this episode, you hear Mel cover topics like: How to handle a mother-in-law who is not supportive. Feeling left out? Good. You need better friends. Why moving in with your parents is better than living with an ex. What to say when your sibling wants to gossip about your mom. Why being the family peacekeeper creates a war inside you. How to stop being the “fixer” in your relationships. The truth about addiction in a family and the role you need to play. Why your dad’s gambling problem isn’t yours to fix. How rescuing people robs them of the problems they need to face. What to do when your parents’ marriage is in crisis. How to tell a friend you are sick of hearing about their relationship drama. Why you shouldn’t be the “therapist” for your friend group. Why it's normal for friends to drop you when you start drawing boundaries. The art of putting yourself first: “Let me” be happy for a change.   Watch the episodes on YouTube:  https://bit.ly/45OWCNr My book! The High 5 Habit  here:  https://a.co/d/g1DQ8Pt   Follow me: Instagram: https://bit.ly/3QfG8bb The Mel Robbins Podcast Instagram: https://bit.ly/49bg4GP Linkedin: https://bit.ly/46Mh0QB TikTok: https://bit.ly/46Kpw2v   Sign up for my newsletter: https://bit.ly/46PVnPs     Want more resources? Sexless Marriage / Dead Bedroom: The Stories You Tell Yourself

If you are in a sexless marriage, the hardest part is often not the lack of sex. It is what you tell yourself about it. You may think: “She is not attracted to me.”“She does not love me.”“I have lost her.”“I am just a roommate.” These thoughts feel real. They feel certain. But they are not always true. In this episode of The Secure Husband Podcast, we talk about the stories men tell themselves in a sexless marriage and how those stories shape behavior. In this video you will learn: • Why your mind creates stories when intimacy fades• How past rejection shapes your current thoughts• The difference between facts and meaning• How your thoughts drive your behavior• Why chasing validation often makes things worse• How these patterns create a cycle of disconnection• What may actually be happening beneath the surface• How to pause and question your thoughts Here is the key shift: There is a difference between what happens and what you make it mean. What happens: She turns away. She says she is tired. She does not respond. That is fact. What you make it mean: “She does not want me.”“She is not attracted to me.”“I have lost her.” That is the story. When you treat the story as truth, your behavior changes. You may chase more. You may seek approval. You may shut down. You may pull away. These reactions often create more distance. This forms a loop: You feel rejected. You create a story. The story creates pain. The pain drives behavior. The behavior creates more disconnection. You stay stuck in that loop. The shift starts with awareness. Ask yourself: “What am I telling myself right now?”“Is this fact or is this my interpretation?” You do not need to solve everything today. You need to see clearly. When you question the story, your energy changes. You become calmer. You reduce pressure. You respond with more control. That change can shift the dynamic over time. If you feel stuck and want help, you can sign up for a free 30-minute consultation. This is a simple conversation about what is happening in your marriage and how coaching might work for you. There is no sales pitch and no pressure. We will just talk and see if it feels like a good fit and how I can help. The Psychology Of Feeling Loved | Dr Sonja Lyubomirsky

Why is it that so many of us are loved... and yet don’t actually feel loved? Dr. Sonja Lyubomirsky is a Professor of Psychology at UC Riverside and one of the world’s leading researchers on happiness. Her newest book, How to Feel Loved, co-authored with relationship scientist Harry Reis, lands at a strange moment: a time when more people than ever say they are connected, and more people than ever say they don’t actually feel it. In this conversation with Dr. Michael Gervais, Sonja offers a quietly radical reframe. After 36 years of studying what makes a life happy, she has come to believe the answer lies in this: Feeling loved. And here is where it gets interesting. Sonja’s research is showing that feeling loved is not something we have to wait for. It’s something we can help create. Most of us, when we sense the absence, default to one of two strategies. We try to be more lovable. Or we try to change the person on the other side. Sonja argues that neither one actually works. What changes a relationship is changing the conversation. She walks Mike through the five mindsets at the heart of the book: the sharing mindset, listening to learn, radical curiosity, open heart, and multiplicity. Along the way, they explore why most of us are listening to respond instead of listening to learn, the three words people actually want to hear (hint: it’s not I love you), and why ‘tell me more’ might be one of the most loving phrases in the English language. Sonja shares her foggy glass metaphor for why being known is the prerequisite to being loved, the Michelangelo effect, and a striking line the Dalai Lama once said to her about how we hold each other. The conversation also gets honest about the harder edges. Bridging political divides at the dinner table. Staying curious about a partner of 30 years. Navigating the modern questions around AI companions, monogamy, and what it means to really go deep with another human. And the research on what tiny acts of kindness, including the impact a 10-second compliment can have. If you’ve ever been surrounded by people who love you and still felt unseen, this conversation is a gentle invitation back in. The good news is that feeling loved is under your control, more than you think. Sonja’s research will show you exactly where to start. Most of us are waiting to feel loved. Sonja shows us how to create the conditions for it... starting today. _____________________________________________________ Links & Resources This episode is brought to you in part by our partner Sunlighten, the company that has pioneered infrared sauna technology.
