Is the 60/40 Portfolio Too Conservative? | Ben with Benefits

Is the traditional 60/40 portfolio too conservative for retirement? On this episode of Ben with Benefits, Ben Carlson sits down with Bob Pozen, Senior Lecturer at MIT Sloan, former executive at Fidelity and MFS, and bestselling author of Extreme Productivity, to discuss his controversial 90/10 retirement portfolio framework. They debate how much risk retirees really need to take, sequence-of-returns risk, whether today's higher bond yields change the equation, and why many investors may be holding too much in fixed income. They also explore the future of AI-driven productivity and what it could mean for long-term investors. This episode is sponsored by Calamos. The ETF Industry Has Lost Its Mind

ETFs have completely transformed how we invest for our clients. Cheaper, more tax-efficient, more transparent — it's been one of the great wins for investors over the last twenty-five years. But folks, we are not in Kansas anymore. The same wrapper that gave us three basis point index funds is now giving us double-levered single stocks, funds that hold literal sports bets — there's a filing right now for an ETF that would hold 40 to 80 event contracts on NFL and NBA games. Not the sportsbook stocks. The bets themselves. And at the very same time, the boring stuff keeps getting better — BlackRock and State Street just launched Nasdaq 100 funds at 10 basis points, coming straight for the Qs. So it's the best of times and the weirdest of times in ETF land, and there is nobody better to walk us through it than James Seyffart of Bloomberg Intelligence. This episode is sponsored by Calamos. "The Tech Stack Is Dead" — Jason Wenk on Rebuilding Advisor Infrastructure

There's never been a more disruptive moment in wealth management — and few people are shaping it more directly than my guest this week. Jason Wenk is the founder and CEO of Altruist, the modern custodian built exclusively for RIAs that's grown into one of the largest custodians in the country, serving nearly 5,000 advisory firms. But the conversation everyone's having right now is about AI. When Altruist rolled out its AI-powered tax agent earlier this year, it shaved millions off competitors' market caps — LPL and Raymond James all sold off in the days that followed. On this episode of Talking Wealth, Jason Wenk and Michael Batnick get into all of it: - The Hazel platform and Altruist's plan to roll out a new AI agent every quarter - Why he believes AI empowers advisors rather than replacing them, and what that means for the human side of advice - The bet against the custody duopoly, and what it actually takes to build modern infrastructure from scratch - Where he thinks the puck is headed for advisors over the next decade This is one of the most energizing conversations we've had about where our industry is going. Don't miss it. This episode is sponsored by DBMF.
