    Fútbol, family and Argentina with Andrew DeLuca

    Andrew DeLuca can’t remember when he was first introduced to fútbol, but it was probably before he could even form memories. Born and raised in the US by an Argentinian father and Peruvian mother, keeping up with fútbol games was a top priority and hard to do at the time. Then the pastime became a family affair, with all the members of the family now partaking in the traditions and superstitions that involve cheering on Argentina during a World Cup. In this episode, Andrew talks about growing up in a Latino household, living in Argentina for the first time after college, his close relationship with his family, and how fútbol was there for him through all of it.     A Saigon refugee bridges the gaps in a new memoir with Hoangmai Pham

    Hoangmai (Mai) Pham is a Vietnamese American refugee and physician, founder of the Institute for Exceptional Care. In our conversation she shares how her family escaped from Saigon before the fall, what it was like adapting to an American life, the challenges of understanding her identity when no one would talk to her about the past, and how she ended up moving back to Vietnam for a year to get answers.  Mai shares all this and more in her debut memoir, Bridge from Saigon, available on Amazon.
