"Don't Want to Be a Fool," performed by the legendary Luther Vandross, was originally released in June 1991. It served as the second single from his hit album *Power of Love*. Written and produced by Vandross alongside collaborator Marcus Miller, the song was a major success, climbing to number four on the Billboard R&B chart and reaching the top ten of the all-genre Hot 100 chart that fall. While it was a chart-topper in its era,in the 90’s, I wasn’t a big fan of the song. However, upon hearing it again recently, I found myself completely absorbed by its mood and the song's core message. The lyrics, particularly the resolved chorus, "Well, I've decided I can't let nobody hurt me again / So I'll say to the end / I just don't want to be a fool," are being embraced as an anthem of self-protection and emotional wisdom. This renewed appreciation highlights how Vandross's soulful delivery and the song's enduring theme continue to connect, offering a powerful soundtrack for anyone determined to learn from past hurts and move forward with stronger boundaries.  I'm Gail Nobles. Rock ‘n’ Me is a song by American rock band Steve Miller Band, released in 1976 as the second single from the band's ninth studio album Fly Like an Eagle (1976). It was written by primary band leader and songwriter Steve Miller. Miller also produced the song and album. The song achieved lasting commercial and critical success, with the publication Billboard labeling it "an immediate audience grabber". It became the band's second #1 hit on the US Billboard Hot 100, where it stayed at the top for one week; it also topped the Canadian RPM Top Singles chart.[11] In later years, the song has been included in several compilation albums such as 1978's Greatest Hits 1974–78 and 1991's The Very Best of the Steve Miller Band. Let's take a little trip back to the breezy days of the '70s and talk about a catchy tune that still sticks in your head: James Taylor's "Handy Man." If you were cruising down the road or hanging out at home, you likely caught this song blaring on AM radio, and boy, did it make an impression! Now, here’s a fun fact: James Taylor's version of "Handy Man" came out in 1977 on his album "JT." This song wasn't just a one-hit wonder; it had a bit of history! Originally, it was a hit for Del Shannon back in 1964, but Taylor really took it to another level when he released it. In fact, his version zoomed all the way to the top and became the most popular rendition ever! But every so often, a voice comes along that seems to exist outside of time, outside of the trends. A voice that doesn't just perform a song, but seems to channel something… universal. That was Whitney Houston. We’ve been thinking about her lately, about that incredible instrument of a voice and the sheer style she brought to everything she did. And it occurs to me that Whitney’s music and style can… transcend. Long after the news cycles have moved on, her art remains, as powerful and clear as the day it was recorded. There’s something about her music that simply… inspires. It pulls something up and out of you. I was thinking about that just the other day, and a melody, a feeling, just floated into my mind. I could hear Whitney singing these words, with that perfect blend of gospel power and pop grace: *“There is no better love.*Now, these words came from my mind,*There is no better love.*But I was *hearing* Whitney. *I need you here beside me.**I need you here to guide me.*There is no better love.” That’s the mark of a true artist, isn’t it? They become a vessel for our own hopes, our own faith, our own need for connection and guidance. She gave a voice to the feelings we all have but can't always express so beautifully. It’s a reminder that the greats never really leave us. Their work becomes a part of our own internal landscape, a soundtrack we can call upon for strength, for comfort, for a moment of pure, unvarnished inspiration. And for that… there is no better love.
