Special Guest - Johnny Harris

Welcome to episode 57 of Off The Beat & Track Podcast with me Stu Whiffen. Say Why To Drugs - The Book!

Happy book-day to me! Happy book-day to me! Happy birthday to Say Why To Drugs the booook, Happy book-day to me! Luckily for you I decided against singing that in the intro to this episode, but I'm VERY excited to say that today is the day that Say Why to Drugs the book launches in the UK, and online. It's taken me the last 2 years to write, and so it's such a weird and lovely feeling for it to be finally available for you to read. Or to listen to! I've recorded the audiobook, which is also released today, and the lovely people at Hodder and Stoughton have said I can share a few excerpts with you all! So we have an amazing Foreword written by none other than Scroobius PIp - he goes in to detail about how the podcast came to be, how he and I ended up working together on it, and generally being very lovely and flattering and supportive, thanks Pip. Drugs: That's Entertainment

We're on our third episode already! On this edition of Stop and Search we're loosely framing it around drugs in film, books, television, and culture... well, that was the idea, but when you get a group of witty and intelligent people in a room, talking about drugs, it takes many twists and turns. On the panel we have:- Actor and comedian, Rufus Hound- Writer and musician, JS Rafaeli, - Our very own LEAP UK Chairman and former undercover drugs cop, Neil Woods. JS Rafaeli has written Neil Woods' memoir 'Good Cop, Bad War' which is out on August 18th. We go into why JS was so inspired as to write Neil's story... and of course, we chat with Neil himself on his own story: What goes on at street level policing to change the mind of an undercover drugs cop who now campaigns to legalise and regulate all drugs? Rufus Hound provides a great voice of commonsense. Having previously worked with LEAP UK's Executive Director (and Stop and Search's host) Jason Reed on the Oscar longlisted documentary The Culture High, Rufus returns to the drugs discussion and takes a swipe at many overlapping aspects of this social policy. Ep94 - Nick Halkes (XL, Positiva, Trailblazers Podcast)

This weeks guest is none other than Nick Halkes. A chap who’s career has grown alongside the the UK dance music scene. Nick was one of the founders of independent record label XL Recordings where he signed and worked with acts such as House of Pain, SL2 and Liquid before taking up a position as a director at EMI and launching the Positiva label. The Positiva label enjoyed significant success under Halkes leadership with artists such as Reel to Real,Alice Deejay,The Bucketheads and more and is now home to David Guetta and Deadmau5 amongst others. Nick joined Chris and Stu to do a HCL first and run through a top 5 in chronological order, giving us an insight into the the clubnights and people that set him on the path he followed. This episode is fascinating and also a good laugh, as Nick was articulate, smart and very easy to get along with. The boys also discuss his podcast Trailblazers which he records with HCL friend Eddie Tempel Morris and his awesome clubnight Reach Up, with partners Andy Smith and Crissy Kybosh.
