    The prime minister is poised to kill off a move to increase taxes on gas giants - echoing the industry's argument that exporters are already paying tens of billions of dollars in taxes each year. You'll hear from a range of key voices in the gas tax debate. The United Nations is confident it can get fertiliser shipments through the Strait of Hormuz within seven days, and save millions of people from food insecurity.     Spender calls for tax on gas windfall profits

    Back in March, the ABC revealed that the Prime Minister's department had requested modelling for a gas and coal tax to shield Australia from the impact of the Iran war, specifically, modelling for levy options to tax the windfall profits being made by coal and gas companies during the conflict. The Prime Minister's department also asked Treasury to work up options for further reform of the Petroleum Resources Rent Tax.But now - it's understood the Prime Minister is opposed to any such move in next month's budget, given the current fuel crisis.     Israel seeks green light from US to resume attacks on Iran

    Israel's defence minister says the country's military is prepared for a resumption in the war against Iran, saying he's waiting on a green light from the United States. Israel Katz is also threatening to return "Iran to the age of darkness and stone" by attacking energy and economic infrastructure.  It echoes a threat earlier this month from US President Donald Trump, who pledged to bomb Iran "back to the Stone Ages" unless it reached an "acceptable" deal to end the war.     'Strong position' - Australian Institute of Petroleum on Australia's fuel supplies

    Prime Minister Anthony Albanese says Australia's fuel supply "remains secure in the near term" - and moving to stage 3 of the government's fuel security plane was "not imminent".  The Strait of Hormuz remains effectively closed to shipping, and in the latest development, the US President Donald Trump has ordered the US military to “shoot and kill” Iranian small boats choking the Strait.
