3 Old Goalies- Season 5 Episode 6: Jonny Walker

🎙️ 3 Old Goalies Podcast – Episode Feature: Jonny Walker Some goalkeepers collect saves… Jonny Walker collected chapters. And now, he’s writing new ones from the sidelines in Memphis. This week on the 3 Old Goalies Podcast, we welcome a name that echoes from MLS stadiums to South American cauldrons and now through one of the most consistent programs in college soccer — Jonny Walker, Associate Head Coach of Memphis Women’s Soccer. 🧤 From Memphis Roots to Global Gloves A Memphis native with a passport stamped in pressure, Walker carved out a professional career that most American players only dream about. He became the first American to truly establish himself in South America, starring in Chile with powerhouses like Universidad Católica and Colo-Colo — clubs where expectations don’t whisper… they roar. He didn’t just play abroad — he won, capturing a Chilean First Division title and competing in the prestigious Copa Libertadores. Then came MLS, where Walker anchored the net for the NY/NJ MetroStars and later the Columbus Crew, earning 2005 Defensive Player of the Year honors. Oh, and casually posting a league-best 0.95 goals-against average in 2003 — a number that still raises eyebrows. And yes… he also wore the red, white, and blue, earning caps with the U.S. Men’s National Team, including a shutout win over Mexico. Not a bad line on the résumé. 🎧 What We’re Diving Into In this episode, we get into: • What it really takes to succeed as an American playing in South America • The evolution of goalkeeping from his playing days to today • Building elite college goalkeepers (and what separates the good from the great) • How Memphis became one of the toughest defensive teams in the country • Stories from MLS, international play, and life between the posts ⚽ Final Whistle Thought Jonny Walker isn’t just a former pro turned coach. He’s a bridge between eras — old-school grit meets modern precision. A guy who’s seen the game from every angle… and now shapes the next generation to see it even clearer. If you love goalkeeping, coaching, or just the beautiful chaos of soccer — this is one you don’t want to miss. 🎙️ 3 Old Goalies… where the gloves may be worn, but the stories are still sharp.
