The European Middle Ages (Part 1 of 2)

The period known as the Middle Ages was defined by more than knights and warfare. It began centuries before the First Crusade was called, in the confusion that followed the end of Roman rule in western Europe. And it persisted for a thousand years, until the Renaissance, the Protestant Reformation, and the discovery of the so-called New World ushered in the beginnings of modernity.   But just how important was the fall of Rome for people across the continent? What political and religious institutions sprang up to fill the power vacuum left behind? And who were the leaders who strengthened Europe sufficiently to once again launch armed expeditions across the sea? This is a Short History Of The European Middle Ages, Part 1 of 2. A Noiser podcast production. Hosted by John Hopkins. With thanks to Martyn Whittock, author of many books on the medieval period, including A Brief History of Life in the Middle Ages. Ramesses the Great: Death of a Dynasty

“Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair.” Ramesses II reigned as Egypt's unchallenged champion for more than sixty years. But within decades the dynasty of Egypt’s greatest pharaoh had fallen apart.  Tristan Hughes is joined by Dr Campbell Price to chart how the reign of Ramesses the Great descended into slow collapse. From monumental building projects that once proclaimed eternal power to the advent of instability to the looming threat of the Sea Peoples, discover how Egypt’s New Kingdom began to fracture under the weight of its own success. This is the dramatic final chapter in the story of the House of Ramesses. MORE The House of Ramesses II: Egypt's Greatest Pharaoh?

#ItaliaMistero #documentario #truecrime #misteri #storiavera #inchiesta #cronacanera #storia #storiavera #perte #FrancescoMarinoMannoia, #CosaNostra, #GiovanniFalcone, #ItaliaMistero, #PentitiDiMafia, #CronacaNera, #StoriaItaliana, #AnniDiPiombo, #MafiaSiciliana, #CollaboratoriDiGiustizia, #Corleonesi, #Maxiprocesso, #GiustiziaItaliana, #DocumentarioMafia, #VendettaTrasversale AVVERTENZA • Questo video è frutto di ricerca giornalistica e utilizza solo fonti pubbliche e accessibili. 70 LDA. • Le ricostruzioni hanno esclusivamente scopo divulgativo. • Non vengono promossi comportamenti contrari alla legge. • Questo contenuto NON costituisce pubblicità né contiene contenuti sponsorizzati.

    Benjamin Disraeli

Melvyn Bragg and guests discuss one of the major figures in Victorian British politics. Disraeli (1804 -1881) served both as Prime Minister twice and, for long periods, as leader of the opposition. Born a Jew, he was only permitted to enter Parliament as his father had him baptised into the Church of England when he was twelve. Disraeli was a gifted orator and, outside Parliament, he shared his views widely through several popular novels including Sybil or The Two Nations, which was to inspire the idea of One Nation Conservatism. He became close to Queen Victoria and she mourned his death with a primrose wreath, an event marked for years after by annual processions celebrating his life in politics.
