    19/02/2024

    2. Nurturing Self Confidence in our Kids

In this episode we will discuss how we can support the confidence level of our kids through childhood, into their teen years and through adulthood. We talk about how we can raise children with a strong inner compass, children who can authentically show up as themselves and avoid giving in to peer pressure or self abandonment in social situations. Children who are guided by their inner voice as they navigate life and grow up to be thriving adults. I will explain two basic psychological needs that we have as human beings and how our parenting can impact how these needs are met in childhood. Corazón Parenting is a podcast for first-gen parents raising their next-gen kids. We discuss all things parenting and child development related. Our goal is to apply parenting tools and strategies that feel good for the parent and the child and that effectively address conflict and challenging behavior. This is built on the foundation of nurturing the ever growing life-long relationships we are building with our kids.

60 - The Overloaded Brain: Why Parenthood Feels Like Decision Fatigue on Steroids

Send us Fan Mail Why does early parenthood suddenly make even tiny decisions feel impossible? In this episode of Doula Talk, Deb dives into the neuroscience behind postpartum brain fog, decision fatigue, mental overload, and why so many parents feel emotionally exhausted, overstimulated, and stuck second-guessing themselves. From sleep deprivation and the invisible mental load of parenting to the overwhelm of too much information and conflicting advice, Deb explores what’s actually happening in the postpartum brain and why struggling to make decisions doesn’t mean you’re failing. It means your nervous system is overloaded. You’ll also walk away with realistic, practical strategies to reduce overwhelm, protect your mental bandwidth, trust your intuition, and stop feeling like you have to optimize every parenting decision. In this episode, we cover: Why parenthood feels like decision fatigue on steroidsWhat postpartum brain changes actually look like (hint: it’s adaptation, not decline)The hidden mental load of feeding, naps, schedules, and constant trackingWhy too much parenting advice can leave you frozen instead of confident5 practical ways to reduce overwhelm and support your overloaded brainHow to stop treating every parenting decision like a life-or-death situationMost importantly: a reminder that your baby does not need a perfect parent. Navigating Marriage in the Parenting Years | With Eli Weinstein

Episode SummaryTherapist, author, and host of The Dude Therapist podcast Eli Weinstein, LCSW joins the show to talk about one of the hardest (and least talked about) relationship challenges: staying connected to your partner while you're deep in the trenches of parenthood. Eli brings his signature no-BS warmth and humor to share real, actionable tools — including the "First On Scene" rule, the Huddle tactic, and how to tackle the invisible mental load — all drawn from his new book From I Do to We Do. Key TakeawaysTake a pause before you take it out on your partner. When you're dysregulated in a parenting moment, step away for 2–5 minutes before engaging. Your kids will still be screaming — but your brain will be in a better place. The "First On Scene" rule. Whoever arrives first to handle a situation becomes the lead. Their way goes — as long as it's not dangerous. This eliminates power struggles and toe-stepping between partners.Make the mental load visible. Write down everything on your mental plate, sit with your partner, and ask (not demand): "Is there anything on this list you can take?" Let go enough to actually hand it over.Anticipation is the secret sauce. The partner NOT holding the mental load should proactively look ahead and ask, "What can I take off your plate this week?" — before being asked.Microdose your relationship with sweetness. Small daily rituals — a special phrase at bedtime, a little physical affection, a note — are the glue that holds couples together during chaos. It's us vs. the chaos, not us vs. each other. Use Eli's "Huddle" technique: check in on each other's energy, divide the game plan, and face the problem as a united front — not as opponents.Play to your strengths. Divide household labor based on what actually works for each person's brain, preferences, and neuroses — not rigid gender roles. About the GuestEli Weinstein, LCSW is a licensed clinical therapist, international speaker, and host of The Dude Therapist podcast. His debut book, From I Do to We Do: Navigating Marriage in the Parenting Years (Wiley/Jossey-Bass, 2026), is the guide he wishes he had when he became a dad — covering everything from the mental load to conflict resolution to keeping intimacy alive. How to Deal with Feeling Disconnected from Your Sweetheart | With Morgan Burch

Episode SummaryRelationship coach Morgan Burch joins Eli to unpack one of the most common — and most painful — dynamics in modern partnerships: the moment you need your partner most is exactly when neither of you has anything left to give. Together, they explore the "hero child" wound, why co-regulation matters more than date nights, and practical tools like the Mirror Game and the DIC Talk that can transform conflict into genuine connection. Key TakeawaysThe Parenthood Paradox: Both partners have less to give at the exact moment they long for more from each other — recognizing this cycle is the first step to breaking it.Microdosing Connection: You don't need a weekend away. Fifteen minutes on the couch with no phones can rebuild safety, trust, and closeness faster than any grand gesture.Co-regulation requires self-regulation first: When you feel the urge to blame your partner, that's a signal you're overwhelmed — regulate yourself before attempting to reconnect. The Hero Child wound: If you grew up parentified or as the "fixer," your nervous system learned that doing more = being loved. Unlearning that pattern is the key to real intimacy. The Mirror Game: Reflective listening — hearing, naming, and validating your partner's feelings without fixing or advising — is one of the most healing things you can do in a relationship. The DIC Talk (Dream, Invitation, Collaborate): Instead of issuing demands or keeping score, share a vulnerable dream, invite your partner in, and build a solution together.Responsibility Dysmorphia: Taking on a distorted sense of responsibility is a childhood survival strategy — noticing it is the first step to releasing it.Seeing yourself clearly = seeing unsafe relationships clearly: When you practice self-acceptance and self-care, the gap between how you treat yourself and how an unsafe partner treats you becomes impossible to ignore. About the GuestMorgan Burch is a relationship coach and creator of The SEEN Method® — a framework built on the belief that beneath every conflict lies one of four things: something someone was scared of, embarrassed about, expecting, or a need that went unmet. Your Motherhood is Only as Powerful as Your Personhood - Revisit

People will tell you: a baby changes everything. What no one tells you is how much you change — and how hard it is to love yourself when you don't quite recognize yourself anymore. In this conversation, Dr. Becky sits down with poet and author Cleo Wade (Remember Love) to talk about what it actually feels like to lose yourself in early parenthood — and what finding your way back looks like. They go deep on postpartum depression, the guilt that masquerades as gratitude, why the hard thoughts hit so much harder than the hard moments themselves, and the small, unglamorous practices — a walk, a shower, two words on a post-it note — that can become a real turning point. Cleo's line has stayed with so many parents who've heard it: your motherhood is only as powerful as your personhood. This episode is a reminder of why that's true — and a guide for how to actually live it. We're re-releasing this episode to celebrate the launch of Rattled, our new podcast for the early years of parenthood, as well as a whole new home for the baby stage inside the Good Inside app — with sleep support, lactation expertise, workshops, and tools built around one belief: a parent who feels held can hold their baby. 23 Jun

When Daily Tasks Turn Into Daily Battles: Transitions, Conflict, and Real Connection

A parent writes that her 5-year-old consistently resists getting dressed, brushing her hair, bathing, or brushing her teeth. "What starts as a simple transition can turn into an hour-long battle, with both of us ending up overwhelmed and the task often still unfinished." This mom has tried everything she can think of—timers, countdowns, reward charts, silly games, punishments—but nothing seems to help. Janet explains why these well-meaning strategies can sometimes work against connection, reframes what these daily struggles may really be asking of us, and offers a perspective on confidence that could change the way this parent approaches the next difficult moment.
