Lost My Son During COVID - They Wouldn’t Let Us See Him | Anthony Stricklin

Send us Fan Mail Growing up without a father can leave questions that follow you into adulthood. In this powerful episode of Indelibly Marked, Anthony Stricklin opens up about his childhood, growing up with his mother and a hardworking stepfather while his biological father was largely absent from his life. For years, there was distance, silence, and unanswered questions between father and son. But in his 30s, after finding faith and gaining a new perspective on life, Anthony made a decision many people struggle with — he reached out to his father to try to rebuild their relationship. What followed was a complicated journey of pride, forgiveness, frustration, and eventually connection. Over time, the two began to build a relationship that had never existed during Anthony’s childhood. At the same time, the lessons Anthony learned from his stepfather — about working hard, providing for your family, and developing real skills that can never be taken away — shaped the kind of man and father he would become. Because of what he experienced growing up, Anthony made a promise to himself: He would always be present for his own children. But life has a way of testing even the strongest promises. On April 3, 2020, during the early days of COVID, Anthony rushed to the hospital after learning something was wrong with his son, Anthony “TJ” Stricklin Jr. Because of hospital restrictions, he was not allowed upstairs to see him. Doctors were able to revive TJ twice during the night, but early that morning Anthony received the call no parent ever wants to hear. At 8:05 AM, his son was gone. The last words they had said to each other were: “I love you.” This conversation is about fatherhood, forgiveness, generational lessons, and the unimaginable pain of losing a child. Real stories. Real emotion. Real impact. A lot Of My Friends Died… I Had To Find Purpose | Mike Nash

Send us Fan Mail In this deeply emotional episode of Indelibly Marked, Mike shares a life story shaped by unimaginable loss, survival, and ultimately purpose. After losing his mother at a young age, Mike grew up surrounded by poverty, violence, and the harsh realities of street life. With no safety net and few resources, survival meant hustling, independence, and learning hard lessons early. But the streets demanded a heavy price. Over the years, Mike watched friend after friend die—many of them people he had grown up with, played sports with, and shared life with. The losses came one after another. His cousin Mike Carter. Close friends Tino and Tony. Mentored youth like Little Daddy. And countless others whose lives were cut short by violence, tragedy, and circumstance. What began as grief eventually turned into something deeper—an overwhelming question: Why was he still alive when so many others were gone? Instead of letting the pain destroy him, Mike chose to turn loss into purpose. Through mentorship, coaching, entrepreneurship, and community leadership, he began helping the next generation avoid the same paths that claimed so many lives before them. In this episode he opens up about: • Growing up in poverty after losing his mother • Surviving violence and street life as a teenager • The devastating loss of friends and family over the years • The moment he nearly quit mentoring after losing a young man he coached • How grief pushed him toward community leadership • His journey into entrepreneurship and financial education • The final tragic loss of a close friend and business partner • Learning to live with purpose while honoring those who didn’t make it Today, Mike lives with a mission: To honor the memory of the people he lost by building something that outlives him. Some people never get the chance to grow old. Mike’s goal is to make sure their lives—and their stories—are never forgotten. Because some experiences don’t just change you. I Grew Up Distrusting Police… Then I Became One

Send us Fan Mail Part 2 of Officer Tashan F.  powerful story on Indelibly Marked explores his journey from an inner-city childhood shaped by distrust of law enforcement to becoming a police officer himself. Growing up in Kansas City, Tashan witnessed firsthand the complicated relationship between police and the community. Many people around him viewed law enforcement with skepticism and fear. Yet at the same time, he also saw officers who served with integrity and courage—sparking a deeper curiosity about the badge. After pursuing football in college as a way out of poverty, life took an unexpected turn when that path closed. Returning home, Tashan worked multiple jobs before eventually landing a position in armed security at Children’s Mercy Hospital. There he developed defensive skills, firearm training, and a deeper understanding of people through moments of life, death, and compassion. But the events of Ferguson in 2014 would change everything. Watching the unrest following the death of Michael Brown forced him to wrestle with a question that would shape the rest of his life: Could he help change the relationship between police and the Black community from the inside? After facing rejection from the Kansas City Police Department due to speeding tickets, he refused to give up. Instead, he pushed harder, eventually entering the regional police academy in Johnson County—where he would become the only Black cadet in his class. From racial confrontations to life-and-death calls, Tashan learned that the most powerful tool an officer carries isn’t a weapon. It’s communication, empathy, and humanity. In this episode he shares: • What it’s like being the only Black officer on the team • Facing racism while wearing the badge • The moment he almost had to use deadly force • How he bridges the gap between community and police • Why communication is the most powerful weapon in policing • The emotional weight of delivering death notifications • Balancing fatherhood, marriage, and policing • The faith that keeps him grounded in a dangerous profession Tashan believes his life is guided by a deeper purpose. Not just to enforce the law. But to serve people with compassion, dignity, and faith. Some stories don’t just change lives. My Mom & I Survived Years Of Abuse | Officer Tashan F . |

Send us Fan Mail Police officer Tashan F. shares one of the most emotional stories ever told on Indelibly Marked. Growing up in Rock Island, Illinois and Kansas City, Tashan’s childhood was marked by domestic violence, instability, incarceration, and trauma. The man who raised him abused both him and his mother, turning their home into what he describes as “hell.” Yet through it all, one person remained his anchor—his mother Ruth. Despite her struggles with addiction, legal trouble, and severe heart problems, Ruth lived with an intense faith in God and a radical generosity toward others. She was known as a “street Christian,” constantly giving food, money, and love to people in need. Years later, Tashan received a devastating phone call. His mother had collapsed from cardiac arrest and was rushed to the hospital. Doctors believed she was brain dead. After life support was removed, something unexpected happened—she began breathing on her own. For hours, Tashan stayed by her side, talking to her, caring for her, and hoping for a miracle. But just minutes after he stepped away, his mother passed away. In this powerful conversation, Tashan opens up about: • Surviving childhood abuse • The complicated love he had for his mother • Forgiveness and healing through therapy • Becoming a police officer after trauma • Fatherhood and breaking generational cycles • The moment he truly understood forgiveness This is a story about grief, redemption, faith, and becoming the man your past tried to destroy.
